Sorry it is a newbie question -
Wanting to replace my 31/10.5/15 AT KUHMO tires with some muddies. How big can I go without modifying my truck? Looking at a set of BFG at this stage, but open to suggestions.
Cheers,
Joe

if your suspensions old and sagged out probably not much bigger than you've already got or if the springs are up nice and high you can get 33's or 35's on with a bit of artic rub, if you can its always worthwhile trying someone elses tyres on for a pre-fit before you commit to buying bigger tyres

Is it a road legal truck? If it is then you cant go any bigger than 33's (5% increase) without having the truck certed for the bigger tires.
If you go bigger than 33's you will also likely have other issues to deal with such as, clearance under the guards (prob need a lift of some sort which could lead to new shocks/brake lines/driveshafts), your speedo will be out and will need to be adjusted... the costs can add up pretty quick.

whoa whoa, back it up
how friendly are you with your WOF man
my 80 series came factory with 31" tyres and I now run 35" tyres, I used to run 33s.
I have never been queried on the tyre size and thats from a whole host of different WOF guys

Never seen tyre size on a cert plate yet... rim size-yes. Have never had to get speedo calibrated for cert either.....

32" should fit sweet, 33" probably be fine too. BFGs aye, you rich?

I'm not saying you wouldn't get away with it - more that personally I'd stick to the law incase of an accident and insurance company trying to find reasons not to pay out.
Seams a number of clubs are limiting tyre size to 33" for their runs these days as well.
Each to their own and the above is just my opinion for what it is worth.

only worth a half eaten mince pie
I ran 285/75R16 on my BJ74
then changed to 33/12.5 R15 when I got 15" mags
never got queried on these tyre sizes either.
Its entirely up to the owner what he wants to do, but as Sadam has said if your springs aren't saggy, then I would stick to 33s

I agree with Skid (except the mince pie bit

), and for the record he knows way more than I do about tyres.

but mince pies a side...
I'll stick to the 32\11.5\15 on a set 15*8 rims. She's my daily drive and ocassionally does the school run. Do it once and do it right is the path.
JUZ- I just priced some BFG yesterday, may need to reassess that. Maybe a set of Nankangs instead.
