rb30 to terrano

hi i have a 93 terrano i have been told that i can use an rb30 5 speed from a holden vl in my td27 terrano is this tru? and what is involved in this swap? allso are the gear boxes in the v6 petrol ones the same ? mine is sounding unhappy in 5th so just exsploring my options for cost ect
and can any one conferm if i need a cert for a 50mm body lift or not thanks mark

You could swap bellhousing over, modify crossmember, gear sticks, and driveshaft, but then you'd have a 2wd terrano.... Gearbox internals are very similar tho (but different enough to be not worth mucking round with). V6 petrol has a bigger gearbox, but bellhousing doesnt match the td27.
Sounds like you'd better be getting it fixed (probably needs new bearings) before it destroys itsself

oh k cool thanks im in dunedin yeah i think i will have to go for a rebuild just hard as its a daily driver at the moment still

just hold your horses.... the Rb30 VL commodore gearbox's fit the terrano then the 5 speed nissan skyline GTS4 gearbox will fit too.
Just unbolt your transfer case and bolt it too the GTS4 box. as the GTS 4 transfercase is fulltime with no low range.
there will be different ratio's within the set, i.e changing gears at different RPM's

The v6 has the bigger gearbox and if you use an rb25 /rb26 front half of the bell housing it will bolt to that gearbox.
You can put the rb20 front half on the td27 gearbox and your rb30 will bolt to it but your asking for it. The gearbox is famous for its ability to break. Best use the v6 gear box. Better still put a vq30dett in it.
Will go quite hard

The patrol came out powered by the Rb30. should hunt round for that gearbox
