mt ruapehu opens on 16 june. it is quite unpredictable when the bulk of the snow will fall. they have already had snow this year, but they often dont get enough snow to really get the mountain going till july.

it should get some this week if cold front has its way wensday nite through to thursday full southerly blast

later on in the year is usually better when the fronts start coming in from the west as apposed to the south, the air is warmer and dumps much more snow even as far south as Marton. Last year we had about 3 inchs here, the old man lives a further 20 kms north and got 12 inchs.
