New From the B.O.P and new to 4WD with old Mistral

Hi everyone.
Thought this looks like an interesting place to start.
Back in Easter I got to take my old Mistral through the Woodhill sand tracks. My first off road experience. With no guidance.
No dents and lots of fun. Had my 23 year old from Auck with me as well as the 8 year old.
So this leads me to my first question.
Where else can I find easy places like the beginners trails at Woodhill but closer to the BOP?
I don't want to wreck my car as I use it every day, but more I would like to learn, which I do best by getting out there.
A days traveling for me is no problem as far as say Taupo or Raglan, Whakatane or Whagamata, Thames area's.

Thanks. Do you mean it is a good days drive from the end of the Seal or Gate Or? I haven't been up there.
If so any other shorter drives for this newby. I was hoping to take my 8 year old for a few hours of off road fun, without scaring him, this long weekend. He enjoyed Woodhill, LOL, except for when his head hit the side window occasionally :)

Where about are you Nel? Yup Te Aroha side of Thompsons can be done in a day. Leave reasonable early AM and still be home for tea if you want. Tho if you want to get home I wouldnt recommend going over the Kati side  . Depending where you are theres a good bit of track up Manawahe too

In Tga. Yep know all about Kati side of Thompsons, tried that many years ago on a bike. FAILED!!
Maybe I had better leave doing the western side of
Thompsons till I get a little more experience under my belt. If I got stuck up there? well mayby not just yet by the sounds of things.
Where was that other trail you noted? I cant place the name?

Te Aroha side is a good drive . I take my 1 yo boy up there he loves it we normaly have bbq lunch at the top . keep an eye out for a side trail to a play ground on ya left on the way up . and dont go down any of the side trails leading down hill into the pines unless u have a winch to get back up . I made that mistake ha ha
