Hi- I have just put my engine back into my nissan safari non turbo diesel .
When i assembled the engine, there were no apparent alignment marks on the gear which drives the fuel injection pump-or the gear which drives this from engine.
I feel certain that this alignment of gears will be critical to timing of pump,so wondered if anyone has the answer to correct alignment please? cheers, Paul

Hope this helps. It is for a TD27 but they are the same in the timing gears.

I won't go into the respect need for timing injection pumps, but i do have to wonder why the question if it is in bits.

I have assembled and started engine, but it was rattling like a mofo and blowing heaps of smoke, and was really hard to start., so this is the only thing i think i may have ballsd up. there were no marks on my timing wheel on pump, so am thinking this could be the problem. Will need to take apart and suss it out properly.

The driven wheel, on injection pump has the letter J in one place, and the letters- zz in another, and the drive wheel has one dot, and in another spot, has two dots, so could be any combination of these points ? lol- scratch ,scratch, thud!!

Timing marks not letters. Dots as shown. One dot goes between two dots
Then there is the fine tuning too, but special tools required.

Looks like im buggered then,as i have 3 dots on one wheel, and 2 letters on the other!lol will keep searching- cheers
