Had some great answers in my last thread thankyou. Have basically been convinced a Safari LWB would be a good investment for what I want to do .

Does anyone have any comments on this one please? Price, model etc

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=66549810

Seems like a pretty good buy - have to get it back to Timaru but it seems like a good option for me.

Seeing I don't actually even have the money nor the loan for purchase yet, I need to know whether it is just me that thinks its a good deal, or for its Kms condition etc make this a good buy worth pursuing?

Cheers

I'd be more inclined to look at local vehicle that you can view/test drive yourself.

Good point. I did forget to mention this is no issue. My family lives in Napier and will take it to mechanic for inspection etc.

SO it will be bought knowing its sound only

Whats it worth?

As long as it all checks out mechanically, If you can get it for $5000-5000 i think its a good buy.

If it needs anything i have a workshop full of nissan parts

Hey thanks for your offer - I may need to take you up on that offer. I was thinking of making an offer around there, and if he took it I think it would be worth grabbing.

Actually while I think about I will be keen on a winch - any??!!???!!

This wagon is 1987!!!. Is mega old. The Kms are very low but you should inspect first. Any diesel wagon this old will need the seals in the diesel pump replacing (unless already done) which is approx $1,200.

Also sounds like he has painted the wagon which makes me think about rust. How well has the repair been done?

Mate for this sort of money you should be able to get a much newer wagon. Sorry to be a wet blanket but thats my 2c.

PS. I`ve got the same wagon but 1989 so yes I`ve delt with the same old before.

I personally thought that $6k was quite expensive for the age of it, but they may be trying to get something back for the amount spent on painting.

Seals are relatively cheap to replace, as long as the pump doesn't need a reco.
If it checks out all right and you are keen, make an offer.

I would suggest thast for 6k you should be able to pick up a safari that has A) a few less years on the clock (1989-94 perhaps) B) some fruit, ie at least a winch and snorkle, perhaps even lifted.

Save your $$$$ and be patient.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... key=439261 something like perhaps????? (for the record i have no association with this wagon or the owner)

Uhh Patience. Yes it seems you guys agree with parents!!! Yes looked at that vehicle - and I agree its a "nicer" vehicle, but its Kms are huge. I would rather have a machine with a few more years in it than a fancier model. Accessories can come later. But in any case you all seem to be convincing me its not worth it. I was thinkin I would offer $5000.

Also, when looking at a vehicle, pay little attention to the mileage. Too easy to disconnect the speedo on vehicles, especially on diesels, as there is more reason for people to do so.

Look more at interior, and get the engine checked. Not cheap to repair if it's been mistreated.

Yes an interesting picture I thought too. Ok. If that vehicle got me excited, I can't wait to see its better alternative.

Is that a 1987..??!?!?!?
It looks just like my 1993...

If it is leaf sprung then yeah its worth the extra dollars to get the coilsprung later models,I was continually re-bending my leafs for my old Rugger, they were inverted half the time... :D

1987 was the cross over year from the MQ to GQ, there are very few 87 GQ's around, but pleanty of 88/89's like mine. The same shape was continued till 1997.

I don't see what the year has to do with any thing. Its a GQ. All GQ's are largly the same.

It has the TD42 and it is coil sprung. The K's are low.

If it checks out, then why not.

BUT>>>>>>>

Saggy ass end may mean its been towing a huge "something" with a lot of weight in the ass end. Also the dents in the rear step indicate a very heavy trailer of some kind. Be wary. Clutches are about $1000 to replace.

But it is the same as any GQ upto 1997, so don't worry about the year, worry about the mechanical condition.

Thank you for all your thoughts. I was going to jump on it as it appeared to be the deal of the century, but it appears that may have just been me convincing myself of that fact.

Will hold off and wait. Whatever it cost me it would be another $1000 say to get it down here (not quite but close enough) so will take your advices. Hadn't noticed the dents etc so it may be beaten up more than I thought.

Cheers

SWB

SWB Safari is a good option.

Both of those look good. The red one has got high k's but it'll keep running for a while yet. And its had the injector pump seals done which is good. If it went for around 4 it would be a good buy, but who knows what hes got his reserve set at.

And the black ones also good, I had my starter motor go which was from water damage (big hole, lot of muddy water, bad door seals, what a mess) so that might be something to look out for, find out why the starter motor had to be replaced. Without looking at it, I don't think I'd pay more than 5 for it. So he might be dreaming a little starting his bidding at 5.

I'm not saying buy this one, I wouldn't. But this shows if there looked after right they'll keep running for a long time. And this one will still have some life in her yet. Bit expensive considering the ks though.

This one looks pretty tidy

I am biased towards Safaris though. You will not buy a better tow wagon for around 5 - 6 grand.

Thanks very much. I had got pretty keen on the done up one, but had sold by the time I got round to going to look at it. Oh well not meant to be. So now I have a loan, and nothing to buy. God it hurts having money and not spending it!!

Yes lovely nissan but I ain't paying 9000

What price range were you loomking at again? (now you have the loan)
Were you wanting to spend it all on the purchase of the vehicle, or use a little on mods?

Posted: Sun Aug 27, 2006 5:45 pm
by Duke3d
Yes have $7000 max. Well if i spend it all on truck I won't be getting any mods for another couple of months - so pre done would be ideal. Tyres/rims are the only exception I can get them no problems. Just lift, whinch, snorkel etc.

Keep an eye out for me

Cheers
