Carb rebuilds?

Post by 3VILC »

Does anyone still practice this ancient art? :lol:
I suppose I could have a go myself, but I wouldnt even know where to look to get a kit from these days. Any ideas anyone?

Dissassemble it, soak it for a while, blow all the galleries out with compressed air and stick it back together with a new kit and a couple of new fuel filters. Carbs wear out and paticularly the shaft on the butterfly wears and leaks air so a rebuild is usually only half as good as a new carb if its done a few miles

Yeah its definately seen better days.. it runs better than a lot of carbs i have driven but nowhere near as good as it could be.
There are a few options;
1; The best but rare as rocking horse s**t, fit an EFI setup from a newer engine
2; Strip and rebuild carb hope for the best
3; Get a chinese aftermarket carb, not too bad priced but apparently use even more fuel than standard
4; Get a new genuine carb, $1200, if I had this to throw around I would chuck a whole new engine in :lol:

I guess toyota is the best bet for a carb kit these days (prepare for heart attack at price), I remember walking down the road to your local little auto store and ordering carb kits for bugger all..now most of those little stores are closed down

Still plenty of specialists out there. Not all on the web though. I used to use a place in New North Road, just can't recall name now.
use yellow pages or do google search.
