Just a little tip: To get the nut off the lower front shocky pin, use a long sockett with 6 sides and grind the end( that fits over the nut) flat.
As these nuts have a very small hex head on them.

When doing a suspension lift, how high could you go before you would need a wheel alignment? if at all. Am about to tackle Mudbums SWB Safari and fit 60mm lift springs and long travel shocks. If this goes according to plan i'd be keen to help you Kaney. Have you got longer travel shocks as well?
Can't be that much difference between a nissan and a toyota  (how long before this is quoted back to me  :D )

Aint that the truth :!:

When you lift up a safari it changes the castor on the front 60mm is probably going to be ok, much higher and you need offset bushes in the arms to change the angle of the diff to correct the castor angle :)

Have you got a good coil spring compressor?

G'day, I'm shopping for new springs & shocks for my prado at present so I'd be keen to hear what sort of stuff you got & how it goes once it's in there.

Cheers

You shouldnt need to sue spring compressors on a safari, just undo your shocks and sway bars and lift till there is enough room, just watch the brake line.

Cobra springs & Monroe Shocks (Chamberlains Christchurch) have heard this setup is too hard. Although after more research (DieselBoy) it may just be the shocks. Lots of Prados down here have this setup though, so it's well used/documented.

Front coil springs
Chamberlains part number – CTFR-116 SP
130 mm OD
15mm wire diameter
10 turns in coil
480mm open length
Pounds rating on coil same as factory 13mm coils
This gives approx 110mm free travel to bump stop

Rear coil springs
Chamberlains part number – CTRR-240 SP
150mm OD
17mm wire diameter
10 turns in coil
490mm open length
This gives approx 180mm free travel to bump stop

Front shocks
Monroe Gas Magnum 16-0188
U shape bracket to be made for the top shock bracket – see drawing
Brake hose from diff to chassis to be lengthened.

Rear shocks
Monroe Gas Magnum 16-0189
25mm spacer needed for bump stop, LH side only.
Brake hose from diff to chassis to be lengthened.

EFS & ToughDog - Genie4x4

We do Toughdog & EFS Suspension only. Rancho will not warranty their 9000's
for medium to hard offroad use. Toughdog has similar and heavy duty
adjustable shocks available with in cab control as well. Toughdog is
designed for serious offroading, while EFS is a more tuned suspension for
all round manners. EFS shocks range from $90-$150 each, Coils around $160
each.

Toughdog springs are around $125 each so its not much to replace them if a
winch is fitted.
Toughdog shocks range from Gas $145, Foam Cell 41mm $185 & Tough Dog 35mm 9
way adjustables $225, Toughdog HD 45mm 9 way adjustables and Ralph heavy
Duty 52mm $320 each.

9 way adjustables have the same valving and components for adjusting as
Rancho, they also can use a rancho in cab controller or you can fit the
electronic toughdog one (I use this).

Steve aka SupraLux could source Rancho 9000's which I what I started off wanting and still would like. Was planning on Rancho shocks with Chamberlains (Cobra) springs. I have the in Rancho in-cab controller already, the toughdog 9 stage will work with it so may go that route. I have heard the warranty on Rancho's isn't as good as Toughdog

Interesting comment from Craig... I have not had a Rancho fail without significant abuse (as in, huge rock in the side of the body, incorrect bump-stop settings, etc), and I would be very surprised if I had trouble with the warranty on them (probably helped by the number of them I have moved). OH, and the pricing of the Tough Dog shocks is way out there... the Ranchos are about 30% cheaper per pair!

The one thing I would have to disagree with is the Rancho application Craig from Genie came up with - "not for medium to hard offroad use" ???!!! Thats exactly what they are for.

The Chamberlains coil springs are recognised as being harder than some aftermarket ones... but without importing custom Dobi ones from Oz who else does 4" off the shelf?

If I remember rightly that truck has the same setup as a couple up here, Chamberlains springs (shocks from there too), modified panhard etc...

Seen that truck on the Old man range
