30 minutes is a lot!
Does it even try to start or nothing at all?

change the spark plugs to a lower heat range.
The ole man used to wrap his ford 5000 tractor engine with an electric blanket set on 1 when the mercury dropped below zero. worked a treat

If its winding over nice and fast and its not a battery/ starter moter problem then it could be something I come across often which is folks puting ther foot on the gas pedal when starting.
This can flood a injected engine quiet easly specially when cold.
Youll know its flooded cos itll wind over and over and not fire, can also sound like its got no compression.
If it happens foot flat and crank till it starts.
the other way it happens is buy starting from cold and turning off shortly after, not alowing engine to warm up.
(e.g taking car outa garage then turning off to wash it)
modern day fuel will foul cold plugs very quckly.
can ya giv us some more details on whats happening, like if its winding over quickly or if its strugling to turn the engine over cos then everything Ive just said is pointles

multi or single point injection? the singles used to have hell problems with overfuelling at start, that was back when there was still some around however
Re: nissan terrano VG30E starting problems
I had trouble with mine, wouldn't fire at all, turned out the ecu was poked, anyway, I found a Nissan site that listed a self diagnostic mode you can run the ecu through and the list of what the error codes meant, that might help narrow things down, the ecu is under the drivers seat, I found it easiest to pull the seat out to see the LEDs when testing it.
It was a Nissan site for 300zx's I think, I found it through a google search.

its defintaly because of the cold because it start first pop this morning and it was pretty warm . when it doesnt start first time i usualy dnt give it any gas turn the key 2 or 3 times and she fires deping on how cold. it sounds like it has compression and doesnt seem to be turning slow. im not too sure if its mulit or single injection but it doesnt seem like its flooding. ill try changing the plugs to a lower heat rang do u know what would be best.
thanks guys

Re: nissan terrano VG30E starting problems
as you say sound not to be a overfueling issue.
I would drop the plug heat range by one step.
Im wondering weather its not sparking or if its not feeding the gas.
next time It plays up, so when its a cold morning next, check to see if its got spark. easy to do if ya dont know, take sp lead off 1 sp and plug into a spare spark plug rest the steel part of the plug against a bolt of bit of steel on the engine and watch for spark while cranking. otherwise put a nice long screw driver up the plug lead and hold it just off a earth on the engine about 3mm away and get a friend to crank. just make shure your holding the handel not the steel bit of screwdriver,
