I have read through tonnes of forums on turbo's for the safari, Regarding manifolds, what is better, log style, or the the type form offroader on tardme, big curvy looking things, then theres the turbo, is it better to get the kit or build one from scratch ?

Cast manifolds are better than the welded steel ones (as they warp easily and start leaking)

Use the steel gaskets as the fibre ones dont last 2 secconds (even with 1200c copper silicone)

Go for a good quality OE turbo rather than a new chinese knock off.

Get an EGT gauge

yep the cast ones are good. just be wary that their is not much room for a dump off the turbo .

As for gaskets. I use the paper oil gasket of all things and have never had them leak. Even with 15psi. I would recommend the steel ones though.

as said on another thread. the tdo5 is a good choice. Its what the safari turbo kits in oz use. If going to run high than stanard boost(no point if you don't) then get a high boost rebuild kit put in and you'll have no probs.

No i would not have thought it would flow very well at all...not to keen on the spaghetti looking one that offroader sells either...may look at making one from steam pipe bends and t's

yeah it will flow like crap. could at least trimmed the box down for the end ports.
imho log style are not great. you get away with it on a 4cyl where you can get one directly opposite it so you get a good push off 1/4 of the flow.
with a straight 6 you only good drive off 1/6th of the flow. the rest has to fight with the other cylinders.
but it all depends on what room you have to play with.

There is not alot of options available here in NZ, any suggestions ?

work awesome oil lines from tardme as well by feeding oil from the main sensor on drivers side is 60 odd psi the oil feed on turbo 2.5mm cut down to 1mm no more blown seals..... oil return i used the alt return make you own tee straight line from turbo to sump tee alt side in ....

if you doing the turbo on the cheap then nothing wrong with a good old j-pipe. I ran one on a safari and it preformed bloody well. cost total of $25 to build.

Used 50mm steam pipe so didn't move.
Did the whole setup including turbo and rebuild kit and 3in zurst for $1000

Dont have stock header anymore, its running extractors

A log type manifold is easy enough to make. If you make one try and make it like a really flat triangle instead of a straight log. this will help stop it from pulling the ends around when it cools. Also helps make it flow a little better.
And 40mm pipe is plenty big enough. Helps keep the gas speed up.
