Installed a lockrite locker into my escudo last weekend, works well offroad, real well.
While on the road, it Locks in under acceleration and de-celeration but ratchets in a striaght line when holding throttle. is this normal? I would have throught that it shouldnt since both wheels are turing at the same speed. I checked both wheels have the same tyres pressure.
Any help appreciated.
Locker Installed wrong?
Re: Locker Installed wrong?
You mean it ratchets if you are doing a constant speed down the road? I don't think it should do that. I run one in the front of my Hilux but never really heard it (only in when offroad) . I did install it in the rear originally ( poorly) and it chipped the crownwheel as we hadn't set it properly. I had it set up professionally when I put it the front. Might be worth dropping your diff oil.

Hi
Did you check the clearances as you installed it?
Did it do the right things with the rear jacked up as you installed it? I.E. if you hold one wheel and spin the other the diff clicks. and try that the other way around?

Re: Locker Installed wrong?
yes yes and yes. Ratchets at a constant speed. goes away with a flick of the throttle though. Everthing went to plan when installing as I followd the installation manual. Have noticed a bit of a whine coming from the rear end when slowing down. I set the back lash on the crown wheel the same as before I pulled it out (0.20mm). was that wrong?

Re: Locker Installed wrong?
doesn't sound right mine have only ever made any noise when turning without power on. Silly question but your rear tyres are the same rolling size aye? Should only be racheting if one wheel is turning faster than the other which should not happen when you're in a straight line
How longs it been in the diff? you sure the noise is not broken teeth in the diff or a broken pin?

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

Mine clicked for a week or so as it bedded in, was told that was normal. It's the bangs you need to watch for

Yer both rear tyres are 31's , same tread depth and pressure. Have had a few violent bangs when reversing in full lock and then going into 1st gear (on road) . Only had the diff in for 3days (completed saturday afternoon 09/06/12). I was concernd about the pinions/cross pins supplied that they did not have dowel holes in the end like the factory units to hold them in place.
