Buying MU

Post by slaayyaa »

Gidday guys,

first time poster....

Looking at this MU, http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =482213541,

Any advice on these? The only Isuzu I’ve owned is a 2.6 petrol trooper. It rusted in the same spot. I’ve had zero experience with the MU.

Do these have LSD rear ends? Auto or manual hubs in front?

How do the 3.1’s go? I see cam belt has been done but what else can I expect to replace shortly?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

That's very low ks!

3.1s are very good if they are looked after. After market temp and egt are worthwhile along with egr removal.

Check out www.clubisuzu.com its run by a wellington guy. Great Isuzu site.

Matt.

Welcome to the site,

Yes what can I say about the 3.1 Mu, well I have had mine going on 6 years now and it is still going strong, Engine has alot of power so long as you do a few mods, and like other say keep up with the servicing and you will be sweet.

If you want to know anything I have done a few things to my Mu, anyway depends on how far you want to go.

What to look out for is Water pump, drive shaft UJ's, but seeing this has done low K's I would not worry about these just yet.

To know if it has LSD in engine bay on the label there is "options" and it should say H43 or something like that Iam not 100% sure.
Someone here will correct me.

Has for your hubs I did not have a good look at the photos it looks like it will have the auto ones, but again Iam not sure on the photo's it looks to have the cap over the hubs, best to take the cap off and take a look and see what it says.

Cheers

First up ill get the rust sorted and throw a paint job on it. Ill drive it for a few weeks and see how I go from there. Would probably do a lift and throw some bigger rubber on it. I guess the rate that I upgrade things will be directly proportional to the amount of times I get stuck trying to go places I shouldn’t be going.

rear main seal,

And while you are under there fixing that, do all the hoses at the rear of engine by firewall, you'll be glad you did later on. they are a prick to do when one is perished and leaks coolant everywhere, and you can't reach it, while gearbox is in place
Yea, though I drive through the valley of death (and it's mudbogs), I shall fear no trail;for tho art modified is my rig, and thy lift kit and lockers they comfort me. Amen
