failed WOF what can i do?

Post by jex_the_bug »

hi my landcruser just failed the WOF on the tyres needing to be certified. iv had this truck for over 2 years and its never been a pro befor. took it to the same place as always and the same guy looked at it. last time it had 37" on and til time only 35".

the truck is certified but the tyres are not on it, just the 10" rims.
he also pulled it up on rust but its such a small spot its just silly. i think he's just got it in for my poor little truck.

im wondering if i can just take it some where else, will they just say i cant?
iv sorted everything else they said about but don't wont to rub the door pillar back to bare metal for no reason or get my truck recerted if i don't need to. what can i do?

Have you got paper work from cert? They never put tyre size on plate but your paper work states what size tyres at time of cert so you have to match tyres with that

the cert was done by some one else 7 years ago and i don't the paper work.
its going to cost lost to get recert but only $50 to get tested else where. i think its just VTNZ being to strict on 4X4s

I wouldn't go near VTNZ with a barge pole, they fail you on the most ridiculous things. Support a good local garage!

got it booked in to the garage across the road from work tomorrow. just hope they dont pull me up but worth a go i think.

ow and VTNZ also failed the inter cooler saying it needed to be certed as it could boost power but more then 20% but i questioned this and he went off for 10 minuets then come back and crossed it out. i really think i just wasted $55 taken it there.

Yep, but only for the 28days the wof check is valid for, from the day of the first check. Ive done the above heaps, if a garage isnt being nice for some reason wait 28days take somewere nicer.

I've done this, quoted $5500 for repairs by a stealership, took it to VTNZ 3 days later and passed with flying colours.

Edit; I realise I said to avoid VTNZ above this post, but still, relevant.

agreed, VTNZ are ##### . plain and simple, go to a local shop or ask around for some where that sees alot of offroaders etc.

Here in feilding the garages see so many dirty dented up four wheel drives the last thing they are worried about is the size of the tyres, aslong as there is 1.5 ml tread over 75% and no wall carcass damage they pass them.

I've done this before also, Took vehicle to a place and the guy said $1500 of repairs and you can have your wof.
Took it to another place and $30 of repairs is all it took, think "just maybe" the 1st garage was trying to scam me.

When you enter a wof (ie after check has been done), it comes up with "last inspection" and says either previous pass date, or fail, and a vague discription (eg steering/suspension, structure/rust, tyres, lights, etc), and date of fail.

But if one garage fails a vehicle, Theres no reason that that vehicle can't then go to another garage, have a new inspection and pass on the same day. Except of course, that all wof inspections are suppost to be the same....

I had the same problem (and many more) getting a WOF in Picton a while back. Ended up taking the truck back to Chch.

You can pay to get a copy of your original cert but if it was done through the guy in Auckland who is notoriously hard to get a hold of good ####### luck.

Just for a laugh I had issues with tyre size and the rim size stamped on the plate too. Had one 'mechanic' tell me that 15x10 was the tyre size (yeah I'm serious  ). Maybe he was just having a brain fart but still.

If your going somewere else a few days or weeks after it was failed, ive personally found being straight up with another wof guy is the best course of action,
or at least ask his opinion before forking out for a wof with the new place, could be more $$$ wasted

They enter the failed category in the system but not any specific notes from memory,
