Post by safari_mulisha »

does anyone know where i could find a cab or how i could make my swb safari into a ute?it looks like a big mission
who here has done this and would it be easier to just find a single cab and put it on my chassis?
what sort of price do they go for?

cheers for any help

If you could find a single cab it would bolt on but the chances of you finding on in NZ are slim to none.

Best way to go about it would cut it youself, i have done it and if you are handy with a mig and a grinder it can be done without too much hassle and wont break the bank, the most expensive part will be getting it certified.

Take a look at the pics in my album and read my build up thread. If its your daily driver id suggest you keep it as it is you will probly regret not having the space you once had.

Yip did it with the cab on the chassis, I used a 4 1/2 grinder with 1.6mm thick cutting discs and they made short work of it.

Measure how long you want your cab then start cutting, Cut the C piller to fit the back and weld back up again, (mating the c piller up looks better than a straight cut in my opinion) I welded the window lip of the c and b piller together then plated on each side aswell so it it joined in 3 places you will have to fabricate a rear wall to fit and put some braces in. Bog, paint and get a window to fit.

Where is the country are you safari_mulisha? If your in the welly region feel free to come check mine out.

Certifing it isnt a problem i have had a certifier look over mine when i was in the process of welding it all back up and he was happy wiht the way i have done it. There is some rule about cutting into the B piller though, Its not necessary to do so anyway.

Once you have cut it and got the rear wall sorted and ready to be welded up get your certifier to come take a look. Probly best to talk to them first to, different certifiers have different opinions on what the want.

yeah i know what thats like...
one place failed my rollcage because they clasified it as a full cage and it had to be manz approved or something
and another place just passed it no probs...
they passed me with a lock diff and 5 point harnesses for the road allso

If you can wait til October go & have a look at the Kiwi Challenge in Rotorua - trayback Nissans are a dime a dozen at any winch challenge.
