viscous fan

How does one test a viscous fan.My fan has some resistance when cold but does not get any stiffer when hot. I thought the fan should stiffen up as it gets hotter, any ideas.

not to sure what type mitsi use but if its the same style as toyota the fan should spin a little bit when hot. ie give it a spin and it should do about 1/2 a turn or so. if it keeps spinning then its needs the silicone oil replacing.

Pretty sure the Mitsi ones work the same as the Toyota ones.
They are pretty hard to bench test as they need the centrifugal action of them spinning to distribute the fluid inside the device.

So, as far as I can see, there's no way to (correctly) measure the behaviour of the fan while it's stopped.
