I just purchased a new set of exhaust manifold studs and nuts for my 80 series landcruiser 4.2 diesel. The new ones that arrived appear to be brass. Is this right or should I be sending them back.

I don't know if it's correct for them to be brass but you could see if they are magnetic (brass is not)

I hope the studs are not. But reasonably common for Exhaust manifold nuts to be brass. They are less likely to seize on the stud.

We use them on aero engines all the time.

The nuts should be single use, as the brass work hardens as it goes on and off the stud.

Make sure you use a shakeproof (star shape) or some form of lock washer.

It was just the plating on them. The nuts are a copper alloy not brass.
They are all the proper ones for the manifold so all is good.
