Hilux..max shock length

Heres one for some of the old schoolers who have probably already modified thier trucks beyond this.
But what is around the maximum length shock you can fit in the front with the standard push-pull steering? I know I know I should just measure, but by my measurements I get about 440mm with the shock disconnected (only about 20mm further than the standard shock!), but other reports suggest even upto 490mm. Now I thought it maybe the torque rod stopping it from dropping further as it currently has horrobly unflexible springs. New springs should have been here on Monday, so have to chase those up..again.
Anyone have any further input? Apart from go crossover :) Don't want to scavenge some longer shocks to find the draglink cant bend far enough and snaps the J arm..dont want to try that experiment :P

you max out height wise around 3" suspension lift. more downward flex needs longer springs fitted to get anything decent. hilux stock set up is crap. a bit of work to get it good I'm going through it all atm with mine. went drop crossmember with shackles and 2" lift springs with hi steer. but still don't flex to good wanna go ruf for more flex also need to remember with all that comes shock mounts brake lines longer driveshaft etc

Yeah cant afford to go that route just yet :P Just pretty sure i should be able to get more than 20mm extra drop with shocks tho. Once springs come out again to put new ones in..if they ever turn up..I will take the torque rod out measure it up and see if I can get a tractor link to match..rose joints both ends will allow a lot more articulating movement
