POS 80 series a/t oil temp light

Hello Chaps

Towed a trailer up to Kaitia from welly last night. The auto oil temp warning light was coming on at times on the hills. Is there a common electrical fault that can cause this?? Because the oil pressure guage doesnt work and neither do the shift indicator lights.
It didn't smell warm or anything, the oil is a good colour and there is plenty of it.

Just wondering as I be leaving tonight with a 2.5 tonne digger on the back and driving back to welly. So should I be worried??

Is a 95 24v turbo model

80 series are prone to overheating the auto when towing long distances or long climbs heavily laden. Its more likely the auto is overheating than an electrical fault. ensure that there is the correct amount of fluid in the auto and if light comes on stop till light goes off. consider using low rang on long hard climbs and if towing on a regular basis fit an trans cooler.

Hi

Drive the auto like a manual.

The light is right. you will be getting the auto hot by not keeping it manually in the correct gear.

Not sure about the 24v models but my 12v has the factory trans cooler in the radiator, all that does is heat up the fluid. Bypass it and plumb up a big cooler in front of the radiator. Best be going to supercheap before you leave kaitaia

dont disconnect the cooler in the bottom of the radiator,plumb in an external cooler before it to take the majority of the heat out of the oil.the coolant temp helps keep the oil at operating temp

seconded put a cooler on before radiator before leaving kaitaia.. as light coming on on hills thats when it will be getting hot so propably real not electrical fault

Well got to within 10min of my parents place to fit the cooler and well, will just say it is farked :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Yet another POS 80, no surprise, should of taken the safari :roll: :roll: :roll:

bummer. second that too.should of taken the safari. dont pull like an 80 but dont die like an 80 either

drove mine to the hokianga today. no trailer, and has two extra trans coolers plumbed in and although no light or anything man there was some heat coming from the trans tunnel.

first trip ive taken it on and happy with the way she went. bit of a dead spot after having slowed to 60-70 picking back up on a hill, but nothing that an intercooler and 3 inch pipe with a boost tweake wont cure.

curly, how long are you in kaitaia for. ill be in town on friday to get some plumbing for the landy radiator shift. could catchup for a coffee.

I am back on the way to Kaitaia at the moment after towing the digger down to Welly last night. Will be picking up the 80 and towing that back down this afternoon. Then back up to drop the tow wagon off in the morning and driving back to Welly tomorrow night or Sat morning, farken POS 80. SO dont think I will have time to catch upp.
