My alternator seems to be on its way out, decided to do this on the Napier-Taihape road last night, voltage on the gauge dropped to about 10v instead of 14v while running. dim headlights and thoughts of being trapped in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal wasnt the end to a days snowboarding that i was after.
Any one got a good place to get a replacement from?
Guy on trademe has a fully rebuilt one for $380 but thats a little more than i wanted to spend.

also tuk is scrapping a bighorn, the alternators should be the same, if not just ask for the plugs as well. see what he wants for it.

it has no engine.
if you are mechanically minded pull it out and pull it apart odds are its the brushes are worn out. easy enough to do only lile a 10 dollar item and just solder them in.

False alarm, pulled battery out to have a closer look and checked the main plug on the alternator. sparking ensued and i found the main battery wiring was just hanging. After spending 30minutes out trying to work out where it bolted, couldnt feel a bolt for it. I found you can access it from the wheel well. looks like the nut worked loose and went MIA, the wire then sparked for god knows how long, fried the stud and snapped it off flush with the 1st nut. Pulled that off and bolted the wire back up, all looks well. the wire needs to have the bottom 2" chopped off and resoldered (will do the whole wire if i can repin it at the plug end.
Never ceases to amaze me the shit that can happen
