I am looking at buying a Landcruiser 80 series, 1996, and the oil pressure is showing about quarter on the guage. I currently have a 95 Cruiser, and oil pressure guage is at the very top. What do you think - should I be concerned about the low reading?
Also, if I am able to put a calibrated guage on, what pressure should it be?
Thanks
oil pressure guage

Re: oil pressure guage
Hi
Toyota Gauges are calibrated so they don't move a lot.
You need to see what the service manual for the engine says the pressure should be. It will be quite different at idle and up through the rev range.
If you want to check put a manual gauge to check things out.
It also depends on the Temp of the oil as well. As it gets hotter it thins out. And the pressure drops. I have lost most of the pressure after climbing a very steep hill for 20 mins, The low oil pressure alarm came on at idle. I had to keep the revs up to cool the turbo and keep oil pressure up.
