Help with annoying squeal

Gidday all,
I have just purchased a 1997 diesel Prado, and I have noticed a very annoying squeal. It sounds like it is coming from the right hand side of the engine (when standing in front). It starts as soon as the accelerator is touched & stops when I take my foot off the pedal, it also stops when you get the revs up. It does not need to be moving for it to happen and will happen when stationary & the transmission in park. I took it to the local mechanic & he reckons it might be a leak in a vacuum hose, but was unable to confirm this. Has anyone else had similar issues that they have fixed & can point me in the right direction.
Cheers

There is a post on here somewhere about a 1KZTE fuel pump making a noise.
From memory there is a filter in one of the fittings where the fuel lines connect or something like that which caused it to make funny noises??

I've check all the belts & they seam fine. The fuel line/filter might be a good place to start, I'll try & find the post you mentioned. Cheers

You can test for a vacuum leak with a can of ether

Does the squeek turn into a hiss when its boosting?

Thanks for that link Jerry, I've found a thread about about a whistling noise similar to mine & it was the fuel return spring. I will try & have a look tomorrow. Cheers

No hiss, noise is constant until about 3000rpm when it dissapears.

eliminate wether it is the belts by quickly spraying a bit of crc on the pully as they are going round and whilst its making the noise
if noise goes away, it was belts
if noise stays, then move onto the next thing on the list

Hi
I would take off all 3 belts and see what happens with that. that will eliminate the alternator, water pump, and air conditioning.
the other thing there is the power steering pump is at the bottom on the R/hand side ( looking from the front).

To throw another few ideas in there to confuse you some more

.. Any of the bearings that the belt run around can also make horrid squealing noises when they start to go.. esp if the belts have been overtightened. Including the bearings in the idler pulleys, alternator, water pump, a/c clutch, steering pump etc etc. I have previously had a truck where the water pump bearing was so buggered it would squeal constantly yet still wasnt leaking any coolant

I took the fuel return spring out last night, stretched it 5mm. And the noise is gone. I would not of thought that such a small thing could of created such a noise. Cheers everyone for all there help. I could of spend lots of money & time trying to find that.

Had the same problem with mine and never wouldve guessed that the spring was creating that weird noise either.
