Hi guys
I am looking at taking a TD27t crate engine to the US to install into a 5-speed VG30i WD21 Pathfinder (same mechanical spec as Terrano). As I understand, Nissan has a habit of matching gearboxes to engines.
So my questions:
-Is the VG30 5-speed trans. compatible with a Td27t?
-Will I need the bellhousing from a 5-spd Terry gearbox to fit the td27 to it?
-Are the engine mount locations the same on both td27 and vg30 frames?
-Are the vg30 diff ratios suitable for the td27?
Just wondering if anyone has swapped a td27 into a vg30 frame - would really appreciate some advice, cheers!

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Sorry to bring this back up, but would the US D22 with the VG33 or K24 be the same?

Re: WD21 Terry: TD27 into V6 frame
why export one... the nissan Frontier was sold in the US with the following TD27 5 speed manual 1997-2000
(1)probably not. nissan employs the same auto trans in alot of models due to the fact the auto's can handle varying power figures quite easily.
but naturally as there engines have got bigger and more powerful the gearbox's have been upgraded aswell. i think the longest run of any particular gearbox in any nissan model 1989 to the end of 1993.
(2)I'd recommend taking the whole engine/gearbox and loom package over. much easier to wire up aswell.
(3) take the TD27 engine mounts aswell. the are different but should bolt to the same parts of the chassis
(4) very unlikley like most engine conversions it is the gearshift/rpm ratio that will suffer as apposed to the diff ratios. as above take TD27 gearbox if you can as it is matched to the torque of the diesel as apposed to the HP of the V6..(not that the v6 was that good anyway)

Crash, where are you getting your info. I am not finding anything on them. All I see listed is a 2.4 engine.

Re: WD21 Terry: TD27 into V6 frame
Nissan Navara is the name for the D22 and D40 generations of Nissan pickup trucks sold in Asia while in the North, Central and South America and the Philippines it is sold as Nissan Frontier. As of 2002, the D22 series Nissan Truck is no longer sold in Japan, with the primary market having been relocated to North America
The part in italics is important as the US assembled ones 2002 onwards
did NOT come with the TD27 only the V6 or 2.4.
Edmonds only references the US market not the global market.
Built in Japan from 1997 to 2000. Versions: Single cab, King Cab, Crew Cab Engines: Petrol (KA24DE) and Diesel (TD27) (2wd and 4wd) with 5 speed manual transmission. These models were also exported to Central and South America. US production in Tennessee started in 1998 with a Single cab and a King cab. A Crew Cab arrived in 2000.

Re: WD21 Terry: TD27 into V6 frame
When I was living in the US I tried to find a TD27 powered one high and low.
The TD27 was never available in USA in the Fronty or Pathfinder. The only Nissan diesels used in passenger vehicles in the US were the LD28, SD25 in very small numbers, and SD33T in the International Harvester Scout.
The TD27s can occassionally be found in forklifts over there.
Moreover, the USA stopped getting the Patrol in the 1970s. Same strategy as Toyota, keeping solid front axles (LC70) and 4-cyl diesels out of the US Domestic Market.
Canadas a different story because they have a 15 year import law, so theres a bunch of diesel Terranos running round up there.

they never were in the "fronty" or pathfinder... because it was in the nissan nivara rebadged as a frontier. get where this is going. you want a grey import one not a US new one.

Re: WD21 Terry: TD27 into V6 frame
Ok by Fronty I mean Frontier (Navara), which superceded Hardbody (D21 Navara).
Its not really rebadging, if anything Navara is a rebadged Frontier, because the platform was designed to meet all the crazy US safety requirements, as well as accomodate the Xterra 4x4, since the US is the biggest consumer of cars in the world.
Crash you have probably 10x more knowledge than me on the Nissan range, your advice is awesome, but I can tell you having lived in the US for nearly 7 years, there was never a US Domestic Market diesel D21/D22/any 4x4 Nissan. South America/Canada, different story.
