alternator think i have been ripped off??

hi guys i took my alternator into a auto sparky the other day to get fixed it was charging but the dash light wouldnt work. I told them i just want to get it to work dont want to put in new bearings etc etc they sent it back to me today and they had just replaced the rectifier aka diode pack thats all and the bill was $395.45 i almost passed out its just a 12v 80amp off a sr20de found in pulsars and primeras.

How much would a rectifier pack be??

I just got a rectifier for a 4JB1 for 46$ .......that price seems expensive. Did I they break down the bill for you to explain the cost of parts and labour?

14.2 the only thing that wasnt working was my dash warning light i tested the wiring to that and its fine so the problem had to be a bad diode or somthing so i was exspecting a diode pack bud didnt realize it would cost that much.

Sh!t. Can get a Terrano 80amp remanufactured with vacuum pump for $375.
Sounds a bit dear to me. But I have no idea what his labour charge is

for that price i would expect it completely rebuilt from the ground up and also gold plated

funny u should say that because i could of got one from trade me for $189.00 fully recond and painted up lol.

diode packs are not worth replacing. They are the reason the light does not go off, over charges and kills batteries. But they are the single most expensive part of an Alt. I spoke to the Auto sparky that I used to use (before he sold up) He said dont replace the diodes, better off having to do bearings, and brushes.

In saying that over 300 bucks sounds horrendus.
