Hi everybody, this is my first post hopefully its not to newbyish. I have a jap import hilux with a dual battery setup but only running one battery at the moment and looking at upgrading to a two battery setup so i can run my winch.
But here's the problem, Ive been asking around and everyone's got there own ideas on what i need to do.
I've been told that the newer style battery's are designed for the newer cars that have slightly higher charging alternators, so if i use a newer battery in my older style hilux that will never been able to recharge the battery to its full potential. I also heard that the newer style battery's are only good for cranking over the engine and not good for drawing power off them for a long period of time. (winching)
But I've heard about using the older style of battery but now i'm confused. Why is it the old style of battery if its the better battery to use, or is somebody trying to sell me all their old battery's just to get rid of there stock?
It seems like every different person i talk to has their own theory on what battery's to use, can someone please shed some light on this and advise me on what battery to use. Its a 1989 Toyota Hilux 2.8lt turbo.
Which is the best battery for the job.

Starting and winching are the same kind of application. May be getting confused with "Deep Cycle" batteries.
Cheers,

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

This may confuse you more?
I have just been down a similar avenue.
I now have a brand new alternator and an Exide orbital battery.
