Well I will get this rolling, the rest of you must be out playing in the mud...
While my lunch is cooking and the missus is making a coffee..
Putting in a new battery isolater in the Prado...Blew the last one up a few months back... Thanks Warren 4WDBits.....
Tidy up some wiring and then advance the pump a bit....
Later I might pull off the intercooler and get rid of my fibreglass duct and make up a new end.. My bro has access to an ali welder at work and is itching to have a play.... Naturally on a home job... Dont want to stuff up a paid customers one eh?

Got new (old) front springs in the lux, sits at a better height than before, but now sags to the drivers side about 18mm darn it.. need to go for a play and see if they flex any better
Pulled torque rod..bushes shagged, drives just the same without it even in there. Time to throw a tractor link in as a cheap fix, and with rose joints at both ends shouldnt limit articulation as the rubber bushes do

So, the last week has been spent in the winterless north. The original plan of just popping the coby in and getting a bar on changed a little.
The draglink came off and another tube sleeved and stitched over it, and we also partially flipped the pitman arm to lift the draglink up outa the way... no more being the first thing to get hit.


Then the radiator came out......


which left some shortening to do in the front....


Guards to shorten as well as the chassis......

And a bar to start fabbing.....

Then, I discarded the snork idea and went for a pod and a hole in the firewall....


The twin fans on the back are operated off the hi-beam switch. We established (when we had one fan plumbed in) that when you leave the vehicle, and the lights/fans are on, the buzzer goes.. all good, cant forget to turn the fans off then.
The back of the bonnet has been cut about 3 inches too, with the intent of stitching it back onto the hinges. A couple of pins and R clips will secure it at the front, the guards will be folded to suit at the front (as in one of the pics, but still needs another 50mm yet to for the bar to clear), and the bar should hide the actual detail of the folding. So it essentially will look like a bobbed front and back Disco still. It didnt help the tidiness of it all though when we accidentally swung a ex200's bucket into the front left guard when it got away from us hanging off the gantry.

No, the track bar isnt going to be moved to coincide with the movement of the draglink
Yes, there will be some kind of barrier between the fans and the dicky-seat, more than likely something simple like a coreflute sign

After fitting up 2nd hand trasfer box (origional transfer has bad scoring on gears so is freeking whinning like a cat on fire) and test driving felt bad vibration from output flange bearings. stole new bearing I put in origional transfer and cleaned up housings ready to put on, have yet to find enthusiasm to lay on my back for a few houres to fit them up to 2nd hand transfer in car.
pulled out axles and rear diff. fitted new bearing to diff and set preloads and back lash etc ready to go back in.
cut old wheel bearings and lock collars off axles and got new bearings seated. attempted to fit lock collar after heating up in oven for a while but not gona happen didnt even get close. am gona have to heat em right up with oxy torch and use a vice. read in shop manual they need 6T of pressure to put them on and should be at 300 deg C
ANY ONE KNOW A GOOD BLOKE OUT WEST THAT WILL LET ME USE THERE SHOP PRESS AND OXY SET TO GET THEESE LOCK COLLARS ON.

also did front outer cv as since the lift it has got a little clicky. Im pondering weather to space down the front diff a tiny bit to lessen the angle of the jandel.
put a bit of rubber over the huge hole in the floor that the handbrake lever goes thru to keep the mud etc out. just used the hand brake to bolt it down and cut a little slit to slit the lever thru.
got some rear shoes on the way, thatll make the entire brake syste new
hopefully can go for a test play at woodhill next weekend

reconfirmed my suspicions that you really start to appreciate all the mods and additions you make to a vehicle over time when you have to redo them all at once

not much this week as spent most in bed with flue.
fixed electrical problem in mates range rover.
installed the old air compressor and wired that up in the surf. found water hose starting to leak, it never ends.

stripped all the doors and rear glass off the Suzuki, plumbed up the power steering lines, fitted radiator, finished doing the wiring, so on and so forth, All ready to swap the body over tomorrow.

very nearly!
hes a pom so it was a given that i gave some stick about British cars
i thought i did dodgy handy work, those things came out of the factory like that.

yeah mate I checked on google and isnt possible to cure those things of electrical faults

Well pulled apart the front end of Cruiser today, followed Clints and Supraluxs tutorials from the Tech Section, cleaned everything up painted the new parts,new brake rotors new manual hubs all was going well until I went to put in the new Inner axle seals...... F+*^#n wrong size!

went to repco (Shit i hate that place!@!!!) nah mate sorry dont have any listings for axle seals for 70 series cruiser. U WHAT???

supercheap same. Nowhere else open Sat arvo here. So will have to wait until monday now, that puts me outa tomorrows team event at the clubs land and mondays hunting trip. Ahh well atleast its all there ready to just put back together. Wont have to worry about the elec hubs packing up anymore.

Had a visit from the Brother n law last night while he was passing through and heading north.
Got a phone call around 12.30 saying he had an accident just south of kawakawa, steering went hard and he crossed the centre line and went into the barriers on the wrong side of the road and dragged down the barriers for about 150m

I jumped into the wifes Falcon and started heading north to bring a 2nd spare tyre and give him a hand to get it rolling again.
Got there around 1am to find his Safari sitting against the barrier and on the ground. I had to pull him off the barrier with the falcon and we got the front tyre (spare) fitted (the original front rim/tyre was in pieces back up the road). We then spent about 2.5 hours getting all the steering arms straightened and straighten the draglink (tow rope and a falcon pulling) so it could turn. Got the back wheel on checked everything else with the little light we had and it all looked good. All the fuses had blown on the interior and indicators.
We started to make our way back to Whangarei at around 4am and it actually drove well speed was kept down for safety reasons and got home around 4.30am and crashed out.
Had a closer look thismorning and everything up front is bent all the control arms and steering arms even the diff housing, front disc was cracked and the body was worse for wear.
I only managed to get 1 pic of it, We got it straightened out and he took it up to Mangonui this afternoon with no issues so it can be repaired at the in laws.... Also had no insurance (as much as I tell him to get it).

Unsure of why the steering went hard but one of the CVs snapped and made a funny noise could have caused the front drivers side to lock up or pull. Im not sure but he walked away so bloody lucky

I think you will find they are the same size as for the 80 series...
90310‑35010 or 90310‑35005 = NBR HSAE 35x50x9.5

Depends what model and year 70 series.
Just been looking at this to do with axles.
Post 1990 FJ7*, KZJ7*, LJ7* and PZJ7* are the same as 80 series as Calvin says.
Pre 1990 FJ7* and LJ7* are the same as Hilux, FJ40
Part no is 90311-33085

Haha Snap! was just reading your thread on this suzolla and pmd jeremy. Will go to ripco tomorrow and see if there have any for 80 series. Otherwise Im sure Ill get one on Monday from saeco or Toyota. Kit was from BTS, always thought Lj71s had same axles as hilux. Nice to know there bigger. cheers for the help guys, also searched on toyoDIY.com and found they are same as heaps of models.

needed to test my new tyres first time ive been out for a while.
Are they those 38" Parnell Jones tyres that where on Trademe? I had a good look at them too. What are they like? You don't see many of that brand.

yeap i swaped them for a set of 35x11.5 simex, thery awsome tyres all round not as great as simex in cray but still awsome tyres

Assuming you can get it, a piece of pipe slightly bigger in inside dia' than the od' of the axle and longer than the axle, fit the bearing and lock collar and pipe, wallop the end of the pipe until the bearing is seated, jobs a good un.

yea did that to get the bearing on, but the lock collar just laughed at me. evin after heating it up to try expand it a bit. I presume you have done it that way before due to posting about it. so I wll have another go at it today only this time ill try it with my man pants on.

good to know it can be done. never had this trouble with any other car. must be a lada thing

Hi Guys
Havn't Posted much on ORE but i have been busy on the LN130 surf this last weekend.
Brand new manual radiator and full coolant system flush, new thermostat and some fancy Antifreeze.
Re mounted the trans cooler with a 1" gap away from the radiator and fitted new 400psi oil cooler hose as the old stuff gave out and sprayed trans fluid everywhere.
Just before the weekend i had my current Goodyear Wrangler AT's fitted to some 15x8 White spokes that I have had for ages, they look good and truck definitely drives better with the wider footprint.
And just earlier i fitted some near new 2" lift Dobi springs in the back
