Electrical relay pinouts???

Post by Sadam_Husain »

I've got a box full of old relays in the shed and always have to go through a pile of them to find one that works, now that I look a bit closer I find that they swap around the positions for pins 30 and 86..... what the fawk is up with that Image does anyone know why theres 2 different pinout spec's, both the relays in the pic are bosch 12V 30A :? the one on the left is a 5 pin relay but I've got a pile of 4 pin ones with the same pinout configuration.

Have a read thru this...
http://www.mp3car.com/the-faq-emporium/ ... it-up.html

The 4 pin is a simple on off....
The 5 pin is switches between two pins...so when the relay is off it sends signal one way... When its on it sends it another way.

I cant look at that site it dosent work on my rural dialup, I understand how relays work and know how to wire them up but what I dont understand is why they swap the locations for pins 30 and 86, if you look at the picture you'll see there in different places so if you swap the relays you have to push the spade connectors out of the connector and swap them around too :?

Ahh I see what you mean now they have really moved things around...

I have done a quick google search....All the pics come up with the same layout as the left hand 5 pin.... or 4 pin with just the 87a missing....

Are you sure the manufacturer hasn't made them wrong??
Chinese quality control?

Take off the covers and have a look....

Strange

I tested all the relays I've got and they all work so the pins are all labeled correctly, I dunno which spec is the standard one to use now, my flatdeck is all wired for the RH relay pinout and my 40 series is 2 of the LH relays and 2 of the RH relays, I might just make everything the RH relay pinout to keep everything the same so anything can be swapped around and I've got a shitload of those relays in the spare parts box

yea they do it just to be wankers, the one on the right with the "switch" connectors opposite each other would be the most common
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

And there is more than 2 relay configurations. Can't beat checking the pin out on the relay.

Had some know all spacky wire them all up the same, resulted in various expensive smoke signals.
