Hi all
Any tips appreciated for a good set of tyres for 100% road use on a '96 Safari. I have two sets of rims 1 x road, 1 x off-road. I need to replace the road set shortly. Cheers VW

Re: Best tyres for road use - Nisan Safari
the hankook dynamic radial arnt too bad on road, aparently offroad theyre only really good for sand though.
but i brought a second hand pair off of trade me with about 5-6mm and they havnt worn down much at all, and i use to drive on the milford road twice every fourtnight with them. that was over about a year. id say they are sitting at about 4-5 mm now?
ive got nankang mudstars on the front and they seem to be holding on quite nice aswell, great for gravel roads.

We sell the Toyo OPHT, quite a few, and have never heard any complaints on them.
Otherwise the Kumho KL51's seem to have a good following.
Both these are highway only tyres btw.
If you want an AT then the Maxxis MA751 is a good compromise. Had Customers in the 80 series cruisers getting over 100k outta these too...

I always got good value from Bridgestone's Desert Dueler A/T's in 31's

one thing that i have noticed is that the a/t and m/t seem to last longer than most h/t tyres. Most sets of muds i've had i've got at least 70thou ks were as mate in queenstown gets 40-60thou out of his h/ts and hes tried most brands.
Both are lwb safari's btw

I think that most HT tires have less tread depth than AT and MT tires

M/T and A/T tyres are made of harder compound rubber then H/T's also the M/T and A/T traditionally have4 to 8 ml more tread depth for obvious reasons as a road tyre's job is really only to displace water from under the tyre as apposed to sand/mud etc

Hankook RT03's best tires ive ever used on the road truck (even though they are muds) out lasts normal road tires, can deal with mud and minimal if any road noise...

The Toyo's don't. Both the AT and HT have 10mm. The MT's generally have lots more though....usually around 15mm (just measured a couple, the Trepador and Mudzilla have 16mm and a 764 Maxxis and My N889's with a few thou on 'em are 14mm)
The ST's however are another story....
