brought a lil farm truck from combined motors inglewood around 2 months ago, wiring started playing up before we got home and lights stopped working 4wd and diff lock never worked either, then the diff blew , so took it back to get diff fixed and hes now charged me to get the wiring fixed which he was meant to have done prior to purchase, and then diff rebuild and new tyres as the ones that were on them were retreads and half fell of before we got home too, and this all totallying up to 40 hours work and a total of 5 grand for a truck that only cost me 3500 in the first place, he told me wiring was good and 4WD was working prior to purchase, its now been 4 weeks and its still in his shop only just finnished it monday and its kinda required for the farm as its replaced my 4 wheeler
So now what can i do
1. find a replacement
2. pay the money
3. do i have any other options
i did ask him not to go over 2g or ring me when i dropped it off.
havent heard from him the whole time unless i rang him
i have abit of a feeling i brought a lemon and now im getting taken for a ride
any advise would be appreciated.
thanks

sounds like you made a bad choice of vehicle when you bought it. "cavet emptor" only latin I knowlol."buyer beware" as when you hand over your money it's your problem. Is he a licensed motor vehicle dealer? in which case he has to play by a set of rules so to speak. If hes not he can do what he likes pretty much. you paying vehicle off. I would be inclined to tell him to shove it or at least argue the bill for repairs. I think you have grounds to argue bill as he didnt call you when bill went up.
Im guessing your young ? and he takeing advantage
whats the truck?
If you dont pay the bill you wont get the truck but if he letting you pay the truck and bill off then walk away and let him chase you.
In reality your probably farkd

Coz you asked

if your going to end up in a dispute over it and it sounds like you're already entering into a dispute

, unless your planning on burning his workshop down or some other sort of revenge do all your negotiations in writing (ie: email) the're are worth a lot more than "hear say" when you end up in the disputes tribunual coz you've got a nice paper trail of what was said and what wasnt said and if the jokers a wanker chances are he'll trip himself up and contradict himself like that prick from Specialty Cars in Matamata that sold me a farked chev motor a few years back and tried to talk his way out of it with a pile of bullshit and lies and a different pile of crap every day and eventualy realised everything he said was all documented by email and I was heading towards a disputes hearing with a complete paper trail so he coughed like he should have done in the first place and took the piece of shit engine back and refunded me

Given you havent told us too much my guess is .
1 You shouldnt have to pay to have the wiring issues fixed as they we supposed to of fixed that before you took possesion of the truck .
2 Diff ....think thats your problem as you possibly didnt check the vehicle over properly before purchase unless you can proove the dealer knew it was dodgy & didnt fully disclose this problem to you (if he knew )
3 Tyres ...again your problem ...you should of looked at them before purchase.
As the vehicle is going to be used for commercial / farm use you arent covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act ...but your may be covered by the Sales of Goods Act.
You may also have some recourse from MTA or LMVDI etc if the dealer is a member of either of these groups ..but only for point 1 .
Good luck ,....i have a feeling you will need it .

With vehicle sales the vehicle must have a new WOF at time of sale (unless its a De-regd vehicle) If not you can take it back and request this to be done and if it fails then you can request its either fixed or refund.
You also get around 3months to take the vehicle back to be repaired (by the dealer) and at their costs under numerous laws and acts.
MTA is good they have set people who deal with these issues as a inbetweener. happened with me when I got a car from Goulstone motors in hamilton (reverse light swtich was stuffed and other lights were blown) and he wanted me to pay for it all as I got the car for a cheap price but I got them involved and it was fixed and paid for in 4days (I was 20 at the time and he thought I would cave but dont let them push you around)

did I read it right
has he fixed the wiring, you didnt ask to be fixed
and replace the tyres you didnt ask to be replaced

the diff i think i can not argue over and accepted that
as i was driving it when it broke and didnt seem to be an issue when purchased.
No im not paying it off .
and yeah hes trying to get me to do a payment play to pay this bill off.
maybe if i did try get him to do a payment plan but private plan and maybe just play half and then let him chase it up
