Look at the base of the carb on the side closest to the rocker cover, there should be a little pipe sticking out on an angle.

it should be a port above the butterfly so the vaccum's applied to the dizzy when you open the throttle, if you connect it below the butterfly it'll have constant manifold vaccum applied to the dizzy

yea without taking the carb off its hard to tell if its above or below the butterfly.

Are there any other ports in that are? One way you could do it is to hook up the vacumn advance pipe to one of those ports, hook up a timing light and if it advances to 30+ degrees when revved , it is working as it should.

i dont have a timing light. no there are no other ports in that area so it must be one of these 3. need someone with the same motor to compare it against. also the purge system has been removed and is blocked off. basically the carb is only using what it needs. it hauls ass and smokes my mates 16valve but would be nice to no were these 3 little pipes go. cheers

Just checked on mine. It is the top one of those three. Looks like all three go to the same place on the carb anyway.

Mine has lots more lines than yours appears to. be good to compare notes. I am installing a electric fuel pump, and pressure regulator. Is the purge system the one with the hose looped back on itself near the three vacuum ports?

The other two vacuum lines:
One goes to the charcoal canister which is connected to the fuel tank and scavenges gases.
The other goes to the thermostat not sure what this one does. Maybe the valve is air actuated

At a guess many more hoses = emmissions jibber jabber, poss a jap import. Rex Russel wreckers has a pile of vits, you cld try stoppin by there with your camera to find one that matches n take some photos of where they go, I cannot guarantee his stack of suzys has motors left in them but may be a good start. Turn up and say your looking for a carb to replace yours and do they mind if you have a look.. I remember the gd old days when you turned up with the tool kit and said you wernt sure what you were after but if you found it you'd ask a price before you pulled it off the car

What is an su carb?
My GS650E carbs showed up this week. I'll start a thread on them in a few weeks.

Su carb is the odschool carbs. can use the 1 3/4 hiff44 of the old mini/mg engines which are ment to produce better power than standard carbs. have herd that the webbers have to be tuned perfectly or they will cut out in steep terrain. Plus you can run blow through boost on them

for their age SU's are a pretty clever carb, they are variable just like a motorbike carb, and a dime a dozen
