Any contacts in Kaikoura area????

Post by albundy »

Wouldn't mind getting a look around the Kaikoura area this summer  , anyone got any contacts up there that are into 4wding :?: . I know people up there but not 4wdrivers or even farmers for that matter. We could do a rock hopping trip up the Kowai one day and camp the nght, could be a good weekend trip. What's ya thoughts :?:

Have a few contacts in the Clarence Valley, and a mate at work has family in Kaikoura who are in the know.

Which area in particular are you looking at? Can start making enquiries if you like.

Defnitely try the Clarence Valley. I came over here on holiday in 1995 got a trip right up high behind the Clarence River needed chains to get up the hill, moved here 12 months later 8) Any high property access would be good too. Could see if we can try any rivers for a laugh. Did alot of tramping up there when I lived there so know what potential for 4wdrivng there is.

Will start making a few calls, and doing a few visits this weekend.

Any idea if we could organise insurance if we did a trip through there? This would more than likely be a requirement with the cockeys.

The locals used to hold a tag along tour through the properties, with proceeds going to the local school, but it stopped when people lost interest in organising it. It's a shame, because its great country back there.

you can go in inland road turn into clarence reserve go right down river and out other end , have done this once before ..
its a pretty serious two day trip , i did stop in the middle and hunt the muzzel for 4 days before leaving .
wouldnt be cheap got three propertys to cross and one of them only likes large "donations".....

Have just spoken to a guy down Clarence who leases land in the Clarence Valley.
Will look into giving permission to a group to go through depending on the owner thoughts (an Indonesian who also own a large Station down south, Ryton I think, but could be wrong)

He said that we would have to have insurance without exception. May be able to link up through Kekerengu, or possibly the Inland Rd (which would be a long trip)

Will look into it over the next few weeks anyway and see what I can come up with.

Depends on the area. Clarence Valley would be for a scenic trip, but the Inland Rd through the Reserve could cater for both.
