Safari TD42 turbo kit (T3/T4) fuel tuning

I just installed a Safari kit turbo kit into my GU Patrol. it had a aftermarket T3/T4 turbo with it. Its boosting at 8psi (full boost at about 2500rpm). i still have not done anything in the pump as yet. The Diesel guys here in Fiji say i have to fit the Compensator (from a TD27 pump) so that the pump will anutomatically supply extra fuel when boosting. is that true? i was wanting to adjust the fuel screw at the pump in half turn. i am planing to run atleast 12-14psi no intercooler. i will soon get a EGT gauge installed and then run over 10psi. but currently i just want to run 8-10psi. How much to a turn the fuel screw at the pump? or its better to get the compensator fitted??

The boost compensator dosen't add extra fuel. What it does is resricts the fuel off boost so you don't have black smoke coming out your exhaust and making your egts go up when off boost.

i'd just turn the fuel scerw an 1/8th of a turn at a time untill you reach the amount of smoke your happy with. If you want to increase the boost its best if you get a good boost controller and ajust it with that.

Fyi , i ran a tdo5 turbo on mine and never fitted a boost comp. It had a bit of smoke but was at full boost(15psi) by 2100rpm so it only smoked for a very short time.

ok...went to the Diesel shop, they did 1/4 turn (i think) as i told them too. the idle raised a little bit (to 800-900rpm). i came home fitted a turbosmart boost controller (Boost "T"). Can feel slight difference from yesterday. The boost hits 10psi only when i go full throttle at 4th gear for along time (about 3000rpm) otherwise it stays around 5psi most of the time and rises if i go high rpm for a distance. i think i will continue tuning only after i get the EGT gauge fitted so i can monitor the EGT's while playing with boost and fuel. Maybe then i can further the boost, but the full boost comes on later 2500+rpm. should i open the screw more?? there is no black smoke coming atm. needs more fuel? i want full boost to come on early.

yeh i'd b e turning the fuel up. To do it on a safari you have to wind the screw in not out.

to me if your note getting full boost till you hit high rpm then you have either a boost leak or the turbo is to big for your truck.

where to check boost leak or how to check it? turbo size not bad for TD42....but i think need to open fuel abit more. just waiting for EGT gauge to arrive so can play safely. its a GU Patrol (1999).
