Gidday all,

Having recently sold my Terrano, I have bought a 1991 LJ78.
Its auto with a factory rear diff lock, its on 31 inch KL71s which are worn badly (uneven wear, some lugs high, others low) one of which is pretty much unwarrentable. I dont know if this is a common thing or not but it seems to have really soft wallowy suspension though I suspect it could need new shocks.

My questions are,

1.) Do 32s fit standard or will it need a lift? looking at getting a 32 inch all terrain tire for my next set.

2.) Where can I go to get a drivers door card? Not that keen on going to Lineside auto as they'll charge me an arm a leg and a small child for one, I'm also needing the padding for the top of the dash (on top of passengers side of dash and around the altimeter/inside and outside temperature).

3.) It has the standard shocks and springs in it, if they are stuffed, what would you guys recommend as a replacement and how much would I be looking at?

4.) It has what I believe to be a factory turbo timer (rocker switch and a black over-ride button). When the key is off and the timer is operating it makes a hell of a screeching noise, where is the sounder so I can remove it and disable it from future use with the aid of a sledgehammer?

5.) The central locking only works off the lock/unclock switch on the drivers door, is there a way to fix this?

I run an Ironman 2"lift kit from Terraquip in Chch. email them, found them good to deal with. vince@terraquip.co.nz
Coils $192.50 + gst for a pair
Total kit cost with 4 new coils and 4 new shock absorbers - $990 + gst
Thats the prices I payed. copyed from email. If the Kl71s arent run at the right pressure they will wear uneven, maybe get a wheel alignment after fitting new shocks/springs.
Try trademe for door card, always a couple of prados being wrecked.
32s will fit. If it wallows around and is wearing the tyres uneven, Id spend the $$$ on new shocks sooner than later. Good trucks.

you can also fit an 80 series steering damper to the LJs to stop vauge steering too

Chamberlains 100mm or 4" lift springs, and Rancho 9000 shocks or raws do them to suit also...

the reason the tyres have every 2nd lug higher than the other is due to shock jounce, the shocks arent working and will need replacing.

You just bet me to that truck haha. But its ok i got another one

smurf was selling a 3" suspension, may be still avaliable

Yea she's going to need new shocks soon I'd say but that's alright, just loving the economy at the moment, 367km on less than half a tank, you f%#king beauty

Also check your suspension bushes, your front panhard rod bushes might be worn. I have had this in the past with my Prado.

Also does your Prado have the electric shocks, these work OK if they are in good condition, however if they are stuffed I'd replace them.

These aren't a bad truck overall.
