Safari 24 <> 12 V Trying to install a stereo

Post by george.ene »

G'day.

I'm trying to install a stereo in a 24v safari. There are a whole bunch of 24>12v converters around but once installed the stereo seems to be cutting out (rebooting) once the volume is past 1/3.

I've used a 10a 24 > 12 converter. Wondering have you folks had the issue? and if so where should I start looking.

Cheers,

poor mans guide is 2x the rating of the stereo's fuse tho it depends on the converter. its just stereo's can draw more than the fuse rating, but its so short in time that the fuse doesn't blow. so when you crank it up, especially with big bass, they can peak well over what the reducer can handle.

the other problem you may face is most stereo's have a switch power feed and a full time power feed which keeps the clock/settings.

ive done 4 of these and i have ALWAYS had to put in a seperate 24v reducer, otherwise it will blink on and off.. just got a cheap $15-$20 buck one off trademe. pretty normal with safaris...
