Old Man Range 4wd trip and BBQ?

Post by penetrator »

Hey Guys me and some mates from work are thinking about doing a trip down the old man range track to piano flat sometime in mid to late september. So far it looks like we have three definite trucks
1) Izuzu Mu on 33 inch mud tyres
2) Toyota Surf on 32 inch mud tyres
3) Ford Courier on 31 inch mud tyres

Also pssibly a series 2 landrover on mud tyres. We were thinking it could be good to go up on a saturday and take a bbq and some beers / whiskeys to piano flat and have a social night out on the trail.

If anyone else is interested in coming along for the drive then just reply to this post or PM me and we can start making some dates and certain info. As per most trips on this forum will need rated tow hooks and some basic recovery gear ie: strops, rope etc. We have a lot of gear between us but want everyone prepared as you may have read the article of the group that were stuck out overnight because of heavy snow. cant be too cautious

Doc and local councils close alot of roads down that way in winter. Good to check out a little of the local info before setting out otherwise we could get in heaps of shit.

iv got a safari on 35s, there will be a fj45 on 35s, a hilux on 33 s, another 2 safaris on 33s and whoever wants to come. its alwaysa bit more of a challenge in the spring with the snow. remember your sunglasses, the glare off the white stuff can be unreal. we have a crib at piano flat so the barbie is no problem, we evn have a gas fridge and 12 volt lights.

Yeah good point Al - even if i had turned up and found it closed i wouldnt have gone in there and given everyone a bad name - definitley not into that sort of stuff especially with a big ORE sticker over the back window!

Sounds like youve got things sussed down there! you wouldnt mind a few of us tenting arounding the place if we tag along with you guys? Were abouts is your crib compared to waikawai (if i spelt that right) Do you know if there is much chance of hunting in the bush through piano flat or is this private land?

yeah will definitley have to meet up and do something about that time again should be good - hows your surf going since the exhaust mod? I just got new 32 inch mud tyres shit they make a difference and with the foot on the floor with my new exhaust and mud flying past the window she makes a beautiful sight and sound now!

Sweet sounds like your going to have a damn capable truck in a few weeks mate wont be much holding you back with twin diff locks and 33's!! Yeah my exhaust is real loud my mate reckons it sounds like a truck with its exhaust brakes on. I usually just keep it under 2000rpm around town and havent been picked up by the cops yet!!! sounds great in low ratio in a bit of mud though - ill take some pics of where he put the tail pipe through when i get back from hunting this weekend cause i just packed my camera up!
