The problem is it has become a popular conv, why spend $ on the orig 413 POS etc - price has gone up accordinly. Once you factor in they come out of older vits and their engs shit their pants once in a while too they are now desireable
How about a complete wreck then you get all the bits you need and maybe able to flog off other bits to offset the cost. Autotrader online has the odd damaged suzy that flys under the TM radar

definatly agree with tarmac, whole car is the way to go, and def not off trademe. keep an eye of turners and suprisingly the side of the road. I got my complete escudo for parts for $400 with a good engine. That way you can get everything you need (instrument cluster, power steering box, wiring/eco, in tank fuel pump etc etc) i scrapped the rest of the truck that was left after i pillaged everything for over $1000 and it only took me 4 weeks to get rid of everything

Bastard

And the vits poo their diffs/CV's, so you have a captive market on the front end for a start

anything going thru turners which is capable of driving around a farm or on the beach is selling for $1200 + buyers fees of higher.
anything which is going to sell for under a grand ends up in my yard with a stock number on it

Any yard is going to charge a mint for a complete motor. Just keep your eyes peeled and they always come up. I like the trademe auctions that are spelt wrong so they don't turn up in every search. I got a total runner from trademe for 800 wof and reg and I drove it home.
If your looking to spend the sorta money that they're asking on trademe you may as well also consider a g13b twin cam or a baleno engine IF they come up maybe? bit more work fitting em but still all good.

Searching "Suzuki jeep" is a great one for this
