TD42+T fueling issues. wound up pump but no extra diesel

Hey all, virgin poster alert!

Have just done the turbo conversion including brand new head and turbo model head gasket on my 92 patrol shorty, 290km, manual.

Manifold from Sinco, turbo from Scarles (search SCR320 on trademe), J pipe straight to inlet, soon to have water/air intercooling

Now i'm doing back yard tuning for now to keep costs down, have the turbo actuator pre-tension set low and have wound the fuel screw in 1 turn, time for a drive. And to my surprise there is not much if any diesel (black) smoke. Boost is 5 - 7 psi, so from research from people who have done this conversion, various 4x4 sites and forums (including this place of course!) i should be looking for a tad bit of smoke to indicate increase of fuel supply etc. So another half turn, no smoke, no real noteable increase of hp. Stuff it i'll go another half, and another drive and yet no increase. Every adjustment i've made so far i've had to back the idle screw down, running out of idle screw adjustment now. 2 turns in on fuel total now, no increase or sign of diesel smoke, used to diesel smoke when motor was N/A

Boost guage is plumbed into the inlet manifold, injectors are freshly reconditioned (part of warrenty on new head), have checked little guaze filter on pump inlet (it didn't have one) fuel filter could do with a change but still flowed very well from pump when priming system

Any ideas guys? I've got the feeling its to do with the pump itself but thought I'd ask first

Thanks for any help

You must have as the idle sped up.....
By any chance does the td42 have a low and full load adjuster? I don't know, just a suggestion...

1 turn is way to much only need to get 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn, have you turned it the right way? and do you have a egt gauge?

Definately have screwed in, clockwise etc, no egt in yet as have a 2.5" dump pipe installed for a rough tune, will be a straight through 3" system eventually, ill put the egt in tonight and get a reading

You really shouldn't be playing with it until you have a EGT, I can't see mine smoking even when it is around 500degs but is still getting hot, where as when it was non turbo it would smoke real bad.

I don't think that screw add more fuel it just ups the pressure.

Righto, EGT in, and yes you were right, too much, have backed off 1.5 turns and pyro is just reaching 500, should have just asked a few questions first i know, rushed ahead i know i know, thanks for the advice :D

no it changes volume.

motardbiker... check the mesh filter in the inlet pipe of the injection pump. these can restrict the fuel. also check you have good fuel supply and no air getting sucked into the lines.

In the end I traced it down to a dodgy fuel filter, replaced, now all good.
