Central Nth Island Cruise Weekend

Post by DieselBoy »

Haven't run an ORE trip for ages!!!

So who's keen??

Was thinking of the following:

 Friday Night

Meet BP Cambridge, depart 8pm.

Head to Lake Ririwhakaitu, arrive between 10 and 11pm (2 hr trip), set up camp and talk bollocks.

 Saturday

Head to minginui, around the egde of Whirinaki forest following public roads to exit onto Napier Taupo road. There was a big wash out last time I went through, we found a track around it, so might be some spade work :D :D

Hoping to camp at destination on Desert road. Brrrrr :D :D :D

 Sunday

Various options,
- Walk to historic hut,
- go to Ohakuni and doodle through Ratamia rd (unformed),
- take some tools and clear a track that used to loop off the desert road back to Kaimanawa road.
- Head up Tukino Ski access (yawn)
- Open to any suggestions!!!

The idea is for anyone to come.

Provided you have tow hooks front and rear, a spade, a stretchy rope, PRS (handheld is fine) and a good attitude, your truck will be sweet, even with little A/T's. Its a cruise, not a hard core trip.

There will be a fair bit of tar seal cruising in convoy, with most of Saturday on the gravel with some optional low range stuff, then the wash out to navigate, and a 15 min low range section to the camp site.

Sunday, well depends, if we do some track work, or get adventurous, then all day could be in low range!!!!

So all we need to do is lock in a weekend??

1st weekend of October maybe??

Mean, hell, if there's enough locals to the forest, you'll know it way better than me, theres so many cool places in there, little loop tracks to keep the more adventurous entertained on the way through etc etc.

Good news about the wash out ski!!

Think we might have us a trip :D

Awesome.

May as well meet you Tauranga folk at the lake, save you getting there so late and setting up in the dark. Should be daylight savings by then.

Saturday will be a big day, lots of ground to cover :D :D

We went way out into the forest and found our way down the river and scrambled up a bank:

Yeah, correct.

Should be the first weekend of day light savings too!!!

So who have we got??

Furgus
UBZ
Batfastard
andysh
TGA_4x4
Munks1

Possibly:
Klompy
Wopass
Jerry
Hamz

Keen for an early start on the Saturday, as It will be a big drive. 8am ish I reckon.

From Rerewhakaaitu to Saturday nights camp is 254km.

1.5hrs to Minginui

60ks through the forest, provided I don't get us to badly lost. I haven't been through in the direction we're planning to go 8) I'm hoping for morning tea at the look out if I can find it again..........

1.5hrs from end of Pohukura rd to camp. Couple of little fun detours if the goings good and bit of low range into camp.

Doesn't sound much, but it will eat the day up quickly.

Sunday try and be heading our separate ways mid to late afternoon.

Mission on :D :D
