Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
For a while there I thought I was watching an off road race event, not a winch challenge.

Funny how things can change..

Everyone got there winch out at least 1 time..lol

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves and breakages were at a minimum.. We wanted it to be a fun time not a super hard time..which we could have done. Maybe next time..

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
If its a winch challenge then the main event has to be the winching and recovery techniques, not who has the loudest engine and heaviest right foot.
Its supposed to be undriveable ..........
If you want speed off road ORANZ caters for those people.

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
Was a great event, there were a couple of speed section but all open class except one did not complete all the stages, so I think it was a great set up of stages. Will be back for next year

Maybe a maximum tyre tread of 2mm, and maximum 32" Haha now theres some muzzaduck thinking but it'd make that winch much more needed....
Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
Of course Ralfie is pretty much right. A winch challenge is about the winch recovery, not speed. Timing the event was only a means of scoring with penalties for unsafe practices.
If you want I will come and run your event for you. Just say when.

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
Im not into politics and hate it with a passion
BUT most of you have to realise that when we started setting this up( only 2-3 of us over 2 1/2 months every weekend of our spare time- let alone our personal cost).. EVERYTHING was frozen and you couldnt stand on half of it.. funny how the seasons can change things dramaticly and it seems easier..If you feel that you can do better up here then by all means come and let see you do it.. coming from an area where seasons are not as extreme as us and more reliable I can only see you fail miserably and then we have to contend with hardly any rain which we were praying for..
and now 3 weeks have passed and it would be a hell place to be and I could only imagine everyone moaning that it was too hard..
Maybe next time we make so hard that everyone has to winch everything and see how that fits.. been there done that and entrants just dont want to push mud every hole and run string out.. let alone breaking things in every stage.. but if thats what people want..??? just hola and it shall be so.. If we do that then NO FRKING moaning.. take it on the chin like a man.
, You have to remember that when people are stuck it takes a long time to retreive them from where they are..Shit even the land .. its the best we could offer..
Ill start a thread closer to the time for what people want, thats if we have one.. yet again the few spoil it for the others..
We wanted a fun event that was technical and fast as well as winching.. but the weather here has a major part in trying to acheive that.. we're not GOD.. Search our rain fall..? it's fk all compared to the rest of the country.. except the last week or so
could have done with that on the 1st.. Maybe a mid winter W/C ? ice everywhere and you winch everything?
Please dont post negative comments unless you have constructive criticism in which case we learn..
Cheers all, sorry for the rant but it seems that some people just dont understand the effort we have put into ours this time.. considering that the last W/C was almost our last due to 1 person who was competing..Amazing how 1 person can fk it up for those that have a passion..and love wheeling not matter where..
We will almost curtainly make our next way harder.

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
Whoa there, back up and take a deep breath. There was no malice intended with my comment.
I wasn't criticising the event, just replied to an offer to assist.
I know what it is like to run these events. I have had the privilege of running the very first couple of winch challenges in NZ after attending similar events overseas, so that also means I know what the original concept of a winch challenge was.
I have been to many events both here, in Australia and Malaysia (RFC) and am about to head off again in the morning to the longest winch challenge event in Australia. Assisting with the set up and running for the 8 days of XI-RFC Australia which starts on Saturday.

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
all the people that competed in this event loved it, this was our fifth winch
challenge in the last five months, and was a great event with some different stages, to keep all the entrances fizzing.
well done, every one has a different opinion on how to set up stages but who runs it get to design it.
agree with some of the feedback but its your event, i also have been involved with running winch challenges, and yes there are always critics
but as you saw at prizegiving, there were smiles all round.
keep up the good fight ,
some will love it , some will hate it.
depends on how your day went.
cheers Bob

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
i had a go at being navi for rick in this event, found it to be one of the best that iv been to. the set out was mint, you got to drive some of the stages rather than winch through mud all day long, and to be fair i think thats how your going to get more people into the sport. if people just break stuff all day no new people will be botherd competing,to expensive. putting in a few hard, technically challanging stages that can possibly be driven every now and again,no harm in that.
everyone that ran this event did a bloody good job,and ill be pushing to bring my truck next year as it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Re: Queenstown Winch Challenge
I don't often get involved in these threads, but I agree with JR. My wife and I try and compete in the odd winch challenge and believe that to get more people involved in the sport, we need to provide events where people get the satisfaction of competing, being able to complete most of the stages within the DNF and not destroying their trucks in the process. If you make a course that only the top level competitor is able to complete, then you will eventually find interest in the sport will die off. Well done to the Shotover Club, we will be back again next year if possible.
