Gen 1 gearbox ratios

Ok all of you Pajero experts out there, here is a tricky question. It turns out that the gear box in my 89 V6 SWB paj is a bit poked, so the question is how are we best to fix it.

I have a 89 LWB 2.5TD parts truck that i was going to swap the transfer case out of so i can fit the pto winch to the V6. Now that the gear box appears to be shot will it be possible to swap the gear box as well? the biggest question is does anyone know if the ratio's are the same between the diesel and the V6?

These are both manual gearboxes by the way

Thanks for any possible help

going though this with my 2.5 turbo gearbox as well. From what i gather, petrol ones will not swap onto diesel and vise versa, completely different with a removable bell housing, where as the diesel ones are a complete unit. the gearbox type and ratio is printed on the plate on the engine bay. for example mine is a km145. The ratio is printed after this, mine was 4 numbers, cant remember them off the top of my head, and apparently has to match the gearbox your removing. Got this info from my local mitsi wrecker.

if you can not get it to work i would be interested in buying your diesel gearbox

Gearbox ratios will be neither here nor there, close enough. Basically the gearbox will not bolt up to your V6. The later Super select gearbox will though and by rights your transfer case should bolt up, no promises. Or you could just run with the super select box. Thats what I'd do and would be by far the cheapest option.
How did you destroy a V5MT1 - they are a pretty good box by all accounts.

Thanks Dan.c, yep don't see any reason why you cant buy it the box, where are you located and how much are you offering? might have to come up wth a plan on how to get it out however....

Thanks Glen.

I think the box was poked when i got it but didnt realise it, it has always been REALLY notchy trying to change gears, especially cold, and it is steadily getting worse. Originally i just thought is was the clutch, but the mechanic suggested the other day when he drove it that it could be the gearbox rather than the clutch. It must have had some serious abuse at some stage i think as the truck has supposedly only done just over 100,000k, and from the appearance of everything else seems pretty genuine.

So you are suggesting that if i get a gearbox from a gen2 V6 it should just bolt straight in, and the gen1 transfer case out of the 2.5TD should bolt on the back? I want to swap the transfer case out of the diesel so i can put the PTO winch in which wont bolt to the side of the V6 transfer case.
