Dont know much about that particular auto but start with the basics..
Check oil level, when hot and running.
Check position of shifter linkages.
If ECU controlled, check all plugs...
Goodluck !

Check the lockdown cable you should be able to reset it by open full throttle? Fixed mine sorta, then chucked another trans it later on

Can the t700 gear box go into a fail safe mod? Was reading something on the net bout it but there wasn't a lot of info...

T700 isn't electronic apart from the lock up solenoid so no fail safe mode. The 4l60e is the later and electronic trans. The only external thing that can cause it to be stuck in first is if the kickdown cable is set to tight. So just disconnect it all together and see if it changes for a test if it doesn't you have a internal issue. Just thinking are you sure you have a T700 and not a 4l60e, the 4l60e won't have a kickdown cable.

No solenoids in there apart from lockup. Its going to have sticky valves/governor and only one reason for that something has or is fallen apart the trans shop have missed something or a s### job. The best you could try is swap the governor from your old trans and try it, the governor is on the left hand side just in front of the rear housing on the main case behind around tin cover. The cover you have to hit off and then the governor will just slide out. If that doesn't fix it will have to go a trans shop(which I can point you to), the valve body is the next step and not diy sorry.
