202/186 carbs

Hi
Trying to get the S2A's 186/202 running on song.
New to these motors so not actually sure if it is a 186 or 202 yet, anyone know location of block numbers?
Got her running alright but the carb seems to be flooding the motor when articulation offroad occurs. looked down the barrel and fuel is just trickling out when the motor is not even running.
So got another carb that i thought was the same but has a bigger barel / studd spacing. presume that means engine is a 186 with smaller cab and the new bigger carb is for a 202?
Was going to fit the new carb/plenum anyway and give it a go but seems the current settup has a crafty little adaptor that rotates the carb 90 degrees to line up with the solid accelerator linkage.
Anyone know were i can get these 90 degree adaptors to try the new carb or is it likely to just flood the engine even more and be a waste f time? probably is.
Should i just be converting to EFI? Anyone done this? Probably more hassle than what its worth? have been told current settup went well.
Car in question if anyone recognises it;
So i guess im best to try work out what the current stronberg carb and repair or replace? any carb experts out there?

efi erryday, tu's efi 202 goes good and takes a hell of a pounding. There are bugger all wires needed to run the eco so would be easy as to set up

thinking back 30 years to when I used to have those old red motors I'm pretty sure the engine size is cast into the block in big letters on the passenger side up towards the front... 186, 202 etc

Have you thought about overhauling the carb on it?
I had the carb on my 173 overhauled by an old fella in chch cost around $130 and he even re jetted it to match the lumpy cam, made such a difference whish I had done it sooner.
Another mod to consider is converting to electronic ignition from the holden efi motors, there is how to guides on holdenpaedia-http://gallery.oldholden.com/ReaperHR/HRWorkguides/EngineIgnition/Blue_Electronic_Ignition/
Hope that helps

Injection is the only deccent way to go. The difference it makes is freaking amazing! more power, instant starting, HEI ignition, and reliability makes it sure as hell worth it. Best mod I did on my landy. Pulling it out now to make room for a v8 tho

I used to have a 186 in my S2a with the dirty dirty standard carb.
It was gutless but never had any major issues with it flooding on angles.
Once the oil filler cap fell off, jammed the accelerator open, and it broke two teeth off the big timing gear in the two seconds it took for me to turn the key off
Maybe its just be the needle jet not sealing or the float level is a bit high

I ran twin SU carbs on my 202 in my trials vehicle. went well for a little bit every time I cleaned and tuned the carbs.
Buy Tu's EFI kit if he still has it at whatever he wants for it. Best thing I should have done, but I swapped my 202 for a 350.

Hi all I'm new to the forum,so it is my first post
ironically last carby I've rebuilt was a couple of days ago for one of these with similar issues
don't bother replacing it,as another secondhand one could be just the same
there are a couple of different types of the old single barrell stromberg, when rekitted there is nothing wrong with them
give me a call I'll be able to identify it, then we'll know what kit to get, as there are a couple of different types,
Edit: the kits aren't very expensive, or I can do it for you
Cheers

Used to run 186 in a s3 on cng went real well but carb washers etc used to dry out tried a 202 head but no more power . but the best was a 173 high comp motor out of the 72 ! ute in a s2 lwb used to pull 65mph plus up ranga gorge. Don,t forget holdens are real hard on points much like 3.5 v8s new points every 5k and clean 17 to 19 thou gap also raise motor high as possible at front with rover mounts eg low at gbox highest on motor and it will run a lot cooler .
cheers nick

A carb rebuild should sort it out there are a lot of 186 motors that run sweet as. (got one in a series 1 and it goes great).
If fuel is leaking in when the engine is off then the needle isn't seating properly as it's worn out or float to high? I think that sounds right...? If float is to high it won't push the needle fully into the seat? Maybe try lowing the float a little.

bought this in the weekend.
chucked spare carb on, ditched the thought of running it on steel linkages so made up a cable to linkage adaptor thing. schmick as.
Just need to fettle with it a little more. starts and runs lovely, except for low revs trying to accelerate and when you're getting back on the throttle. pops back through the carb like nobodys business. once you get it on song though it goes like a champ.
have fettled the carb as good as I can get it but still yet to do timing which will hopefully get it running good enough.
