GQ Safari 4.2TD vs GU Safari 4.2 TD...main diffs?

Hi all...appreciate feedback on this one...
I have a '96 Safari GQ version with 4.2TD...hands down it is one of the most brilliant vehicles I have owned...unbelievable engine and heaps of character.
I am now thinking of an 'upgrade' to the later version GU with 4.2TD...I think this model ran from 1997-2002.
Can anyone tell me the key changes (better or worse) between the two versions?
I don't want to 'upgrade' and find I am not really any better off...
The main improvements I am looking for are 'not a lot'...eg:
1: a better on road ride (I do about 600 k's per week)
2: a few less rattles
