I hate reading these posts stating stolen trucks too.
I'm hoping to hear about this new GPS tracking kit soon. I know there are other cheaper ones on the market but these ones I'm looking into are meant to be faultless and very reliable.

The fellas that were ripping off Skylines here in Chch a few years back got busted using the older system that I'm hoping to hear from this month.

What gps system are you looking into? im looking into this one and setting up a diy on this forum, it should be pretty easy to set up, just needs to be hidden in a place not too easy to find, and with the battery back up on the device gives you a couple of days to find you vehicle/contact police and get it back, regardless if they take the battery off and start chopping up your truck :(

I heard of a car been stolen with the GPS tracking in it, the owners followed to where it was and run the police. Police said they couldnt do anything with out a warrent. The car then moved to another house a few hours later, so they called the police again but with the same responce. The car moved again and they owners rung the police telling them where it was (on the move) still with no luck. The GPS signal was lost not long after this.
I believe they move the vehicle round to avoid a warrent been issued for the address it is at.
If you are going to get GPS tracking spend the extra $$$ and find one that you can turn the vehicle of once they are on a busy street, I hear you can even set zones so it will shut down once out side a preset area and tell the thief to get the f#%k out of your car!

Hope you find your truck Hugh and hope these guys get caught sooner rather than later.

just hide it somewhere they wont look like in the airbox.

NZ Rodder mag (or it might be NZV8) had an advert for this unit. Seems like a good idea if you have something valuable and attractive to the wrong people. Problem is the cops may or may not act on your call. I wonder if you told them the address and then said you were going to get it yourself with your shotgun if they would come then.

Reminds me about the guy who rung the cops about a burglary next door and they said they couldnt come. He hung up then rang back telling them that he had shot the burglar and within minutes they were on the scene, but no one had been shot.

yeah that would get their attention, the kit i showed before has a few relays, so you can hook the siren up to the car horn, and also you can put a relay over the fuel cut solinoid switch, so via txt you can stop your vehicle set off the horn and call the police tell them where it is, also if they don't act on it, just call your mate hemi from down the street and get him to bring his whanau to come get it. or get a bunch of ORE members with their trucks and 338 lapuas to back you up ;)

But then you know Murphys Law would strike and they just happen to steal the car while you're charging it

There was a family in chch recently that go their home ripped off, called the cops up with an add to recover their iphone from having located it from "that app"... and they cldnt for some dumb reason about it not being enough grounds for a warrent. I see there are changes in the pipeline to give the boys in blue more power in this aspect. Also knew a sparky who had his shed burgled around 5 years ago for the "copper wire rainy day fund" he went round the scappys and go a copy of the ID for the dude who sold it the next day - so much for proactive policing. He sat outside the guys home for around 2hrs waiting for the policed to turn up, turns out all he had to do was call and say they had 10 min or he was going to knock on the door and have a word:lol:
