Hi all,

The driveshaft on my 70 series cruiser running gear looks like it has whacked a rock or something and has a ding in it. Advice on how to suss that out? Can you straighten them out or are you better of getting a replacement piece? If replacing it is the way to go I'd appreciate a point in the direction of where to acquire one.

probably depends how big the ding is and if its giving you any driveline vibration, both driveshafts in my 70 series are a bit knocked around but drive fine, I've only replaced 1 U/J in 10 years and that was only normal wear and tear not related to inballance. Dunno where you are but if your anywhere near Wellington Brian Howat builds and balances driveshafts but its probably getting a bit close to trial season so you'd probably be on a long waiting list to get any work done, cheapest and easiest option is to ask around on TM auctions and find a second hand one theres always plenty of 70 series cruisers getting pulled apart

Cheers for the replies. Well my vehicle actually a land rover but has all the running gear from a 70 series (late 80's/early 90s I think). The engine is a 13bt, gearbox, disc brakes, diffs etc are all cruiser so I figure it will be a straight swap with another cruiser one. There is a wee bit of vibration, took it to my mechanic who advised me to fix it for wof purposes.

Any ideas on cost of balancing? I am in Wellington.

Howie shortened and ballanced one for me about 5 years ago for 100 bucks
