Blackhead beach??

Post by fullthrottle »

Anyone stayed at the Blackhead beach camp? If so, any good?

Some maps have listed a 4x4 track around that area.

Cheers

hey
If its the blackhead beach in hawkes bay then its a nice camping beach, no free camping there tho, a couple of other beaches north that you can drive to around the beach. Didnt know of any 4wd tracks there tho.
i know of a good 4wd track that follows the river from the ypuk bridge to taiparu road, waipawa, maybe 5-6kms long, home made bridges, big mud holes etc....

cheers

yea, used to camp there every christmas as a kid. its quicker to go to blackhead then drive up the beach at low tide then to go further north by road...that's if your coming from the south obviously.

the beach is a marine reserve now so no fishing there.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

c

yea thats the track, definitly basic if you stick to the main track and drive up on the stop-bank around all the drains...

In the last couple of years me and a few mates from down here have bush bashed a heap of new tracks and obsticles. we some times see other 4wders down there but they seem to stand on the side while we throw our trucks into the mud holes.
its a shame its not winter as when its dry its not so fun.
unfortunatly i just pulled my motor and box out in the quest for more power and throwing in a holden v6 so unable to drive mine for another couple of weeks.

if you real keen my mates are still headin this weekend i think, a mad max style suzuki farmworker running a v6, bighorn v6 and a cuiser with a v8. im guesing sunday but like'gotflex' said its easy as to find. Just head down taiparu rd untill you hit the river then follow the track right. Youl see lots of short cuts around ruts and holes but thats not our style. if you have to get on the stop bank youv missed our track, made 2 willow tree bridges but use them at your own risk, but weve never lost a truck in lol as.....

OK, so from a camping perspective with the family around Xmas time.
Is it a good camp and beach for the kids?

There is not a lot of info about that camping ground that I can find.

oh yea off topic...
awsome for kids but not too sure if theres a public camping ground there. Also pourere - free camping and i think a camp ground, poronghau - free camping, karakau - may have been washed away but they allow campers for free. maybe best to check http://www.chbdc.govt.nz for the best info on the beaches in central hawkes bay

not sure how much fishing is left to do up there :?

When fisheries officers searched the Toyota Hilux driven by Grant they found 343 paua. All but two were under the legal size of 125mm. Some were as small as 92mm.
