was out for a play on Muriwai Beach west of Auckland when a
"friend" of mine decide to power-side up to the side of my rig.. he sent a wave of sand in through my open windows and covered the sunroof track.

now i should know better than to have the sunroof open when we're throwing sand around, but today was wicked hot etc

here's my question... how big a job is it to pull the sunroof out so i can clean it out.. the sand grinding as i open and close it is too painful not to do something.. im going to attack it with an air compressor tomorrow, to get rid of the loose stuff, but there'll be stuff caught in the grease etc that will have to be cleaned out properly

thank in advance for any help given.. hope everyone had a safe weekend

Most factory sunroofs are a pain in the ass to remove. You have to remove the hoodlining from the truck, the sunroof frame will be bolted to the inside of the roof. Its a pretty time consuming job, but if you can remember how it all came to pieces then you'll have no trouble. The glass will have shims under each side to keep it level with the roof, so make sure you refit them the same way. Good luck.

Depending on how much sand there is.... I'm pretty sure there are plastic covers on the inside of the sunroof glass on each side. Probably a screw to remove it. Take these off and you should see two 10mm nuts on each side (this is where the shims are) remove these and the glass only should lift out of the frame. You may be able to clean it up "enough" doing it this way. It would certainly be alot easier than having to remove the whole unit. Give it a go
