Hi,
as a project, i'm looking to replace the 2l petrol engine in my 84 surf with a diesel one, pref 2.8l. Anyone out there with experience in that? would the 2.8d fit without too major a reshape of the engine bay etc. ?

Any photos of a swap like that anyone?
Churr.

The engine will fit in the engine bay.
You will need to fit new engine mounts on the chassis to suit the diesel engine, change the bellhousing to a diesel one. ( I have a few bellhousings) and wire it for the diesel engine. glowplugs etc.
Fit a diesel fuel filter, flush your fuel tank and possibly run a larger fuel line?
Mount a diesel air filter
Also swap in a diesel radiator too.
You may need to change your diff ratios once you have it running too. Depending what size tyres and current diff ratios you are running now.

factory rev counter won't work once you fit a diesel.
Have a feeling the oil pressure senders and temp senders may be different too.

Dont the "m" series engines bolt straight up to the 3y engine mounts? Wouldnt this be a easier/cheaper option
