2.8 Diesel Hilux motor wanted - ideally waikato way

I know fark all about the motors so only relaying the info - does a 3L from about 92-98 vintage hilux sound right?? Anyway the Bro inlaw is after one as he has one that is very rattley. Wondering whether anyone up this way has done a supra swap or something similar and has this motor lying round??

Sorry this won't help you Lilpigzuk, I'm after a bit of info here.

Is the 2.8 diesel toyota engine a "3L" as stated above? and if it is does that mean that it has the same block as a 2L as found in my 84 surf? and if so, does that mean a 3L would bolt right in where my 2L is at the moment?
