Any mods? I have just had a TJM 50mm lift suspension lift kit fitted. Manual hubs and steering damper on the way from USA as we speak.

Also have added tow hooks etc.

Not really.

I have a set of mud tyres which I put on and that really helps it go. other than that nothing really.

Its got a PTO winch

and will be fitting tow hooks soon

More nissans here than what I thought. We (our family), have a nissan patrol which doesn't have a rego or warrent as its just for 4wding. There is a photo of it on this site on page 4 in the random photo's in this websites photo album but yeah

Hey Guys, I have a question.

While figuring out where I was going to attach a towing hook to my truck I discover that one comes as standard. Not so much of a hook but more like a open ended "U" kinda shape.

Would this suffice in times of need or do I still need to get a proper hook

Is that on the front or the back of the truck. It is proberbly better to replace it with rated tow hooks and high tensile bolts because then you know it is going to hold up if you need a snatch. If you can't find somewhere to put a hook on the back a rated shackel thru the tow ball hole will suffice for the amount you sound like you want to do. Just don't ever attach your strap around the tow ball they can be like a big very lethal bullet if they break.

Cheers mate, it's on the front. I think I will replace it, but you are right I don't do too much heavy 4x4ing. I think a decent "D" bolt on the back should do the job as I don't have a tow bar. There are eyes on the chassis I can bolt it too.

Unless some one tells me that this will rip the truck in half, or break or generally just cause really bad things to happen.

If the front hook is anything like mine it will be fine if you replace the bolts. Best bet is to pop down to your local engineering place or local 4wd club and ask them to have a look.... took 2 mins to check my front one.

I was orignally going to mount tow hooks on the rear, on the brace for the tow bar. Unfortunately the tow bar mountings werent designed for lateral (side to side) movement, ie if you pulled from the left or right of center the whole thing would bend. I would suggest for the back you bolt directly to the chassis rails. Bear in mind though that you need to be able to get to them easily when your truck is body deep in mud

Also if your spare tyre is under the car, move it, at least for 4wding, because sods law says you'll get a flat when knee deep in mud. It's happened to me and trying to jack the truck up to get the spare tyre out is a pain in the arse.

I will take your advise about checking out the front hook. Solid advise on the rear mount, I will check it out this weekend. My trye is on the back door, an yeah I have been caught with the spare under about 2 feet of muddy water. It suks don't it.

I'd appreciate any advice on Terrano suspension upgrades. I have a set of monroes currently and am wearing through tie rod ends frequently. I think they have had it and was wondering about what to replace them with its always been a bit of a roller round corners so something a bit firmer would be good.

Any ideas on where to get a manual from coz I'm a dumpass that needs one. I heard they have them on CD but I can't find one.

I would have a look at Rancho shocks Cruiser_Beast has a set on his cruiser and they seem to be fairly decent. I have seen a few cheap sets come up on trademe and also in the NZ4WD magazine there is a guy who advertises in the back who I think has them at $95 a piece. I don't have a magazine near me at the moment but if you don't have one at home I can get you the number when I get home.

You should be able to purchase a manual from supercheap or repco or whitcolls online book store, I think they tend to be fairly cheap.

Probably the biggest problem with terrano suspension is the front torsion bars. As I understand it they were never "man" enough for the job from the factor. They sag over time and wear until they cannot hold the front up and you get a lot of bounce, and then the shocks wear out as they are doing all the work. You can wind up the adjusters to get the height back but then the front can become hard on road.

I have a 95 terrano and put a TJM kit in, replaced the whole box and dice, torsion bars, rear springs, and shocks all round, as well as a 50mm lift. The kit, and particularly the new stronger torsion bars, made a huge difference to the on and off road performance. Rather than hit a bump and bounce for the next km it now behaves like a proper suspension and you get 1.5-2.0 bounces before it stops. It even corners relatively flat.

I am looking into Rancho shocks but am interested where you got the new torsion bar and TJM kit? The idea of lifting the body is something I would like to do also. Was it just a body lift or did you have to alter drive shaft angles etc? Thanks for the info I love my truck and its nice to know others appreciate this vehicle.

My lift was a suspension lift, so changes to front and rear drive shaft angles, although not big changes. Typically you can only lift the terrano 50mm in the front with the IFS before you start having alignment and steering geometry probs etc. if you want to go higher with a suspension lift you need to starting looking at new A-arms or ball joint spacers to get the alignment back and some new steering parts, idler arm is one. All this stuff is available in the USA and they will ship it out here.....for a price.

I got the TJM fit from fully equipped but it was pricey, $1700. I went with it because they were the only people really offering a complete kit rather than bit from here or there. I understand the rancho gear is good, and you can get full kits with torsion bars and rear springs, but again manly from the USA. Calmini is another one that does a full kit.

Body lift kits are also available up to 3". One day I would like to do one also. The body lift does not fix the problem of front-end clearance though, aside from the fact that you can put bigger wheels on. With a 3" suspension lift and 3" body lift you can get 35s on after some trimming of the guards.

The 2 web sites below are good for seeing what’s available. I got warn hubs and a steering damper sent out from 4x4parts.com. If you are going to buy anything from them, be careful, I have heard sometimes they will take your order even if they don't have the parts in stock then you end up waiting months to get it. Pays to check that they actually have it when you order.

Got any pictures of your lift. I have just brought a 94 Terrano V6 auto and am keen to put a lift in. What size tyres has the 50mm lift allowed? What sort of prices did they charge to get your goods shipped from the US? Did you run into any Customs or GST issues?
