Hey Everyone.
Lookin at getting some bigger rubbers for the Safari and I noticed that 4wdbits have some for $299 each.
I only wanted to go 33s but as these will end up being around a 34inch tyre I was wanting to know if there is anything I would need to do. Plan is to do a 3inch suspension lift. Would this be enough?
Cheers
Ray

hi there forge1,im running 35x11.5x15 silverstones on my safari, have 3inch suspension lift,40mm body lift and had to space the rear bumpstops to aviod rubbing on inner rear guards, also have radius arm spacers on the front to stop front wheels from hitting the guard on full lock.theres a bit more to a 3inch lift compared to a 2inch if you want to do it properly.you will also need around a -22 offset for your rims, if you use the standard offset factory rims these will rub big time with 35s.also i wouldnt recomend a body lift on a lwb safari as they are a lot heaver than a swb and put a lot of stress on the body mounts, but i have seen a few lwb with body lifts so i guess its up to you.you could trim the guards to suit, the fronts arnt that hard but be awear the rears have a double skin and are a little bit more tricky.with 35s your gearing will be out and it will be a bit of a slug on road, offroad in low range not that bad.hope none of this puts you off.cheers craig

Ok sweet cheers for that. Hmmmm need to make a decision haha. I was thinking of getting on of those complete kits from Oz for a 4inch lift as it might be cheaper to do that or even import it in from South Africa as they are cheap as chips once you convert the currency.
I have a couple of months before I have to make a decision this hasnt put me off one bit but the fact that its soo big has made me thing if its worth it or should I just use it as a tow vehicle and get a little Zuk or something along those lines.

haha yeah thats true I have been thinking that as I want to do a tour of the south island next year and hopefully get into one of those 6day 4wd tours so want something that will be user friendly on the road aswell.
A Zuk will definately be on the cards but more of a road legal one (on rego hold) for up north trips on the beaches instead of getting a quad bike.

Yeah I liked the look of your one Coxsy. I wanted Bridgestone Dueller Mt's in 33s but they dont make them anymore so looking at these.
Did you have to do any trimming? Mine is so sagged out on Standard suspension that the rear diff sits to one side haha

hey forge1 i have a set of 3inch heavy duty front springs to suit a lwb if your keen, these have been only been used once up at wood hill, too firm for my swb,i took them back out,you can have them for$150 pick up only as i can't be arsed with couriers.you shouldnt need to trim anything if your only going to fit 33s.cheers craig

Mine is on TM. Oh and if you are interested, my brother has aquired a safari with a set of 33" muds and an aluminium bull bar, could do a deal maybe as would need standard items to refit.

I know I have your on my watch list haha but it will probably go outside my price range.
Sweet keen to know more about these 33s do you know what condition they are in etc how much tread left? I dont know if the bull bar will work as I have a PTO winch so cant really swap much from that.

Its just your iron man lift kits I work the price of a 4-6inch lift kit at $1,147NZD + freight but thats everything (shocks, springs, adjustable trailing arms, panhard, etc from what I could understand). A lady from my work went to SA and came back with a 4WD mag for me with all the prices etc. If I go down that route I would work out the freight side before going further as it might be the decider.

They are Sumitomo Serengeti 33x12.5 on 15x8" rims, look like this:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 637762.htmHeaps of tread, about 10 mm. You can come and have a look/try them on if you want?
